7 Classic & Chic Outfits to Master This Summer

Who doesn’t love a classic? Everyone does, whether that’s Breakfast at Tiffany’s or chocolate chip cookies or, in our case, certain summer outfits. Seven of them, to be exact. Here’s our list of summer outfits that never go out of style—they’re all super easy to put together and will having you looking nothing less than chic AF.

1. Romper

What’s not to love about an all-in-one outfit? Not only are rompers pretty, comfy AND available in literally every pattern and color imaginable, they also don’t take much planning. You can just put on a romper, maybe some accessories and then boom: you’re done! Easy and effortless; that’s what we’re into.

2. Collared shirt and jeans

This is a classic look that can work in a ton of situations. “My favorite classic summer outfit is a collared cotton shirt (sleeve or no sleeves) with denim! It’s super easy and easy to transition from day to night,” says Tori Sweeney, a senior at University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee.

A white, collared shirt with jeans is perfect for brunch. Pair it with a pair of denim shorts and a floppy hat for a chic beach look. The possibilities here are endless!

3. Tank and printed shorts

When you want to go for an easy outfit that still looks pulled together, this should be your new go-to.

“Sometimes, all I want to do is wear gym shorts and a big t-shirt, but scalloped or printed shorts paired with a simple tank top is a more chic outfit alternative to workout clothes (and is equally as comfy)!” says Darcy Schild, a junior at the University of Florida.

The best part about wearing a tank top with printed shorts is you can dress it up or down. Throw a brightly colored blazer over your tank top to dress this look up (which is also handy if you get cold at restaurants but still want to look summery).

4. Gingham dress

Gingham dresses graced the runway at London Fashion Week Spring 2017, so you should totally give this look a try! Charlee Hrubesky, a sophomore at Indiana University, is excited that gingham is back in style. “I love a summery gingham dress with the perfect pair of summer wedges,” she says. Gingham is an unexpected yet classic pattern. Plus, the checkered pattern comes in colors like light pink, black and navy blue. And if that’s not enough for you, Marilyn Monroe rocked gingham back in the day, so you know it’s real.

5. Maxi dress

Like the humble romper, maxi dresses are super easy yet chic. Jessica Harrington, a senior at Hofstra University, says that maxi dresses and rompers are her absolute go-to. Who could blame her? These outfits are so simple but can be dressed up or down to be as down-to-earth or as fancy as you need.

6. Striped top and khaki shorts

This is one outfit that will never go out of style. A horizontal striped top with a pair of khaki shorts works everywhere from the beach to shopping with friends to bonfires.

Christine Burney, a senior at Savannah College of Art and Design, loves pairing khaki shorts with a white top, but she has an affinity for stripes. She says, “I love nearly anything with stripes.”

We think she’d definitely love this outfit, and you will too!

7. Double denim

Double denim is a classic trend. But how can you make it summery? White jeans and a light wash denim button-up shirt, that’s how. Accessorize it with your favorite sunnies and some cute brown sandals.

These seven looks are classic and classy. They work in all sorts of summery situations and still allow for you to recreate the outfit time and time again with different shoes and accessories. Truly, some outfits never go out of style.
