An Open Letter to the Guy Who Wanted to Netflix and Chill

Dear frat dude,

When I gave you my number, I actually thought you were cool. We had a good conversation, you made me laugh and you kept my attention. When I gave you my number, I thought you were different.

But you weren’t.

It started with “hey” and ended with, “Come over. Let’s Netflix and chill.”

So let’s get to the bottom of this. Who made up Netflix and chill? Literally, it means watching television and hanging out. But nowadays, it directly translates to watching, at most, part of a movie and then having sex.

The sad part is, most girls have accepted this. In fact, most college age girls actually think it’s cute. They squeal with joy when their crush asks them to come over to “Netflix and chill.” But the saddest part is that most of them think that this is a date. This is not a date. This is a sorry attempt to get a girl in bed with little to no effort on your part.

So here are some tips, for the guys who want to give a girl some romance:

Take her on a date. We all know that you’re as broke as we are, so it doesn’t have to be fancy. In fact, it could be free! We don’t care what it is; just show some effort. If you show even a tiny bit of effort, you’re already ahead of the game.

Be romantic. Yes, that is still a word. Romantic: conducive to or characterized by the expression of love. It’s as simple as getting her flowers or opening the door for her.

Pay attention. Don’t treat her like everyone else. Actually listen when she tells you something. She will be pleasantly surprised when you remember her favorite ice cream flavor or what she wore last Saturday night.

Pretty soon, you’re going to enter the real world, and girls are going to have more self-respect and dignity. The “Netflix and Chill” line that you have undoubtedly mastered will no longer work for you. So take my advice and start treating girls the way they are meant to be treated.

Best of luck,

A fed-up college girl
