If you’re anything like me, finding a new show that you actually get obsessed with is the best feeling. Typically, I’m not really into sports romance books or movies, so I honestly wasn’t sure what I was going to think about Off Campus. I went into Season 1 thinking it would just be a fun college romance that I could watch when I had some free time, but I ended up getting way more invested than I expected. Between the relationships, friendships, hockey, and all of the drama, there was always something that made me want to keep watching. It quickly became one of those shows where I could tell myself I was only going to watch one episode, and then suddenly I was thinking, “Okay, maybe just one more.” And honestly, if a show can make me completely forget that I probably have assignments due, I already know I’m addicted.
Based on Elle Kennedy’s Off-Campus book series, Season 1 follows a group of college hockey players and their lives both on and off the ice. There’s romance, friendships, parties, college drama, and obviously, a lot of hockey drama. I honestly wasn’t expecting to love it as much as I did, but it quickly became one of those shows that I looked forward to watching. One of my favorite things about Off Campus is the college setting. As a college student myself, it was fun watching a show that actually revolves around college life. It has the friendships, relationships, parties, school, and random drama that make college feel like college. Obviously, not everything is realistic, but that’s kind of what makes it fun to watch.
And we definitely can’t ignore the romance. The relationships are a huge part of the show, and I was completely invested. There are so many cute moments, arguments, and times where I was sitting there thinking, “Can you two PLEASE just get together already?” I definitely had a few moments where I was getting way too emotionally invested in what fictional characters were doing. I also really liked the friendships between the hockey players. They all have different personalities, and watching them joke around and get involved in each other’s lives makes the show even more entertaining. They definitely give off that friend group where everyone knows way too much about everyone else, which reminds me a lot of my own friend group!
The characters are also really easy to get attached to. I definitely found myself having favorites and getting excited when certain characters were on screen, specifically John Tucker and Garrett Graham. At the same time, there were definitely moments when I wanted to yell at them through my screen because of some of the decisions they were making. But honestly, I feel like that’s how you know you’re actually invested in a show.
Overall, I really loved Season 1 of Off Campus and cannot wait until Season 2 comes out. It has romance, friendship, drama, and just enough chaos to keep you entertained. It’s definitely one of those shows where you can tell yourself you’re only going to watch one episode and then suddenly realize you’ve watched half the season. So, if you’re looking for something new to watch after class, trying to relax, or when you’re avoiding doing homework, we’ve all been there, I would definitely give Off Campus a try. Just don’t blame me when you end up getting way too invested in these character’s lives and relationships.
