Hello, everyone! Welcome back to our Her Campus at Youngstown page! As the semester has begun, you may be looking forward to the long study nights ahead. Whether this be at your campus library or in the comfort of your home, there is a space for everyone. I definitely believe that it is important to figure out what study strategies and tips work for everyone. Everyone is different, so doing some self exploration can definitely be beneficial! Here are some of my study tips to pass along that may help you this semester!
Tip #1: Identify your learning style
This is something that I feel like hasn’t been emphasized enough within my college career. Identifying what style works best to increase your productivity and learning ability is essential to maximize your college performance. There are various types of learning styles from visual to auditory and more. Some individuals know what type of learning will allow for them to grasp a better understanding, but others may have to take a virtual test to identify this. This may seem like an uncomfortable study tip, but this could increase your learning abilities.
Tip #2: Find your study spot
Although, studying may not be the most entertaining thing to spend your time on, finding a study spot may change that mindset for you. Being able to look forward to a study session in your favorite spot on campus, whether it’s outside, at the library, in a study lounge, or in the comfort of your apartment or dorm, can make studying feel a little more enjoyable . Making yourself comfortable can allow for better learning, so be sure to explore your campus to find your “go-to” study spot.
Tip #3: Eliminate distractions
This may be the most difficult tip to follow through with, but I believe that it is just as important. Many distractions can keep us from being our most productive self. Some examples of distractions that you may want to limit include television, text notifications, social media, your study surroundings, and more.
Tip #4: Have a fun drink
Now, obviously, college students need to stay hydrated in order to take care of themselves. But, on a real note, we all love our fun little drinks. This can range from coffee, matcha, or energy drinks. Believe it or not, having a fun drink to study with can make a big difference and keep you motivated to push through your college material. It doesn’t have to be crazy, but this may be something that you want to try out.
Tip #5: Make a study group
Having a study group can allow for both a better understanding of material and to be able to make friends within your courses. Whether you do a study group once a week or once a month, this can help everyone keep on track of what to expect in the course. Everyone can work together to keep each individual accountable, which can be a great sense of support.
I hope that some of these tips were new to you or are helpful to kick off this college semester. Remember, don’t push yourself too hard and to have fun! Thank you for reading! Please stay tuned for more college-themed material and articles!!
