There has been a recent influx of pop, rock, and other genres of new music this spring and summer. Olivia Rodrigo’s third studio album “you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love” was released on June 12, 2026. The lead single from Olivia’s new album is “Drop Dead,” which was released on April 17, 2026. This track has proven to be a hit, topping the charts in Australia, Canada, Ireland, the United Kingdom, and the United States. The second single from this album is “The Cure,” and it has also proven to be a breakout hit, reaching the top 10 in multiple countries.

A possibly under-the-radar hit arrived with Taylor Swift’s “I Knew It, I Knew You” for Toy Story 5. This song has a nostalgic feel and can even be viewed as a callback to her debut album. The song reminds me of “Betty,” and some fans have also noticed beats from other songs throughout it. It sounds somewhat country, which makes it feel reminiscent of the album “Taylor Swift,” which has been affectionately renamed “Debut” by fans.

Moving on to a different genre, “Dracula (JENNIE Remix)” is a popular remix of “Dracula” by Tame Impala. This song has been trending on TikTok for months. It gives off indie-rock and pop-rock vibes while still having a unique sound. There is also the very eccentric “Rock Music” by Charli XCX. It was released on May 8, 2026, as the lead single from Charli’s seventh studio album, “Music, Fashion, Film.” (Wikipedia) It is a hyperpop song that brings a different vibe to current music. This song is pretty polarizing among listeners, with people having different opinions on its unique sound, lyrics, and style.

Another recent popular album is “The Great Divide” by Noah Kahan. It is Kahan’s fourth studio album and was released on April 24, 2026. (Wikipedia) A popular single from this album is the title track, “The Great Divide,” which was released on January 30, 2026. Another track, “Dan,” has been popular on social media and is a fun, upbeat, and hopeful song.

Back to the pop side of music, Ariana Grande’s “Hate That I Made You Love Me” was released as the lead single from her new album Petal on May 29, 2026. It is a calm but relatable track. Grande’s upcoming album Petal will be her eighth studio album and is set to be released on July 31, 2026. Ariana Grande is currently on “The Eternal Sunshine Tour.” Overall, the music released this spring and summer has included a lot of different styles, from pop and country-inspired songs to rock and hyperpop. These songs have stood out as some of the popular hits of summer 2026, while also showing how different the music scene has been this year.
