Binge-Worthy Netflix Shows

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Youngstown chapter.

While Netflix may be the go-to app for someone who is constantly watching movies or loves binging a TV show, it might not be the best for someone who has nothing to watch. For this reason, I have compiled a list of five great Netflix shows to watch. There is a little bit of everything on this list, so you are sure to find something that might interest you!

Bridgerton

Imagine Gossip Girl taking place in the 1800s. It would be totally awesome right? All the beautiful ballgowns with the juicy gossip of the wealthy families. Well, that is a pretty accurate description of Bridgerton. This show gives its viewers the opportunity to be a fly on the wall for multiple high-class families and all the drama they ensue. This series is currently only one season long, with eight episodes in that season that are about an hour long. Bridgerton has been renewed for another season, so the story will continue on, and let’s be honest, who wouldn’t love to see more of Simon Basset!

Schitt’s Creek

This comedic show follows the Rose family after they lose their family fortune they have acquired over the years from their video rental store. Before they went broke, Johnny, the father, bought a small town for his son as a joke. They are forced to up and move their lives into this town because they have no money and no other options. Throughout this show, the Rose family has to adapt to this new lifestyle they have been thrown into, and they definitely face ups and downs along the way. They learn the importance of forming close bonds with their small-town neighbors instead of a number on their bank statements. This show has 6 seasons with about 13-14 episodes per season. Each episode is about 20 minutes.

Sweet Magnolias

After her life crumbles to pieces due to a cheating husband, Maddie is forced to move on and create a new life for herself. She comes together with her two long-time best friends in hopes of finally starting a spa that they’ve been fantasizing about since they were kids. This show portrays Maddie figuring out her new life and the people she allows in it, including her son’s cute baseball coach. Sweet Magnolias is currently one season long with ten episodes. Each episode is about 40-50 minutes. This show has been renewed for a second season.

Criminal Minds

While this show may be fairly old, it is still a great one for all those people who love a good mystery. Each episode presents a new case that the Behavioral Analysis Unit of the FBI must work on together. Not only is this show filled with enough mystery to keep Sherlock Holmes guessing, but it also follows the strong family-like bond of the members of the BAU team. Criminal Minds is made up of 15 seasons available for people to watch. Each season has around 22 episodes, with each episode being about 40 minutes. Now, this may sound like a lot, but you will fly through it without even realizing, just like I am.

Emily in Paris

This show portrays a headstrong woman determined to make her mark in Paris. Emily was transferred from her marketing office in the US to another company in Paris, and if you might know anything about the people Emily works with at the new overseas company, it is that they have a tendency to be unaccepting of foreign people, especially Emily. Emily uses her imaginative ideas to continuously impress the members of her new team, while simultaneously navigating a new friendship/relationship with her downstairs neighbor, who is very attractive, I might add. Emily in Paris is currently one season long, with ten episodes in that season. Each episode is 25-30 minutes long. This show has been renewed for another season.
