The definition of Aura by Merriam-Webster is as follows: a distinctive quality or atmosphere that seems to surround someone or something. However, it can also be in reference to the colorful energy field that surrounds a person, extending beyond the physical body, highlighting their spiritual state. Auras are said to be notoriously difficult to read and can often only be detected by those who claim to be psychics and witches.
The mystical veil of magic and auras that we know today actually has been derived from Victorian science, religious beliefs, and ancient arts. According to mysticryst.com, “Theosophy, a spiritual movement founded in 1875, popularized ideas about subtle bodies and the human aura.” In 1902, a book by the title of Man Visible and Invisible by C.W. Leadbeater was published, with detailed aura visualizations and artwork.
As the article continues, it discusses more of the roots of Aura in ancient history, “In Hindu and Buddhist traditions, concepts like the prakasa or inner light, and the halo or nimbus in Christian and Buddhist art, suggest that holy or enlightened beings appear surrounded by light.” Also, “In Chinese medicine, the notion of qi (or chi) flowing through the body is a vital energy model, but qi is not described as a colored aura.” Although these may not be directly related to the practice of aura reading and the projection of one’s self, it points to the formation of the idea.
In the more modern era, the ideology seems to be more widespread. Some claim they have the ability to read auras with the naked eye, with others claiming to capture it on film. So, if you wanted to get your aura read, what would it mean?
Red: If your aura color is red, it represents vitality, passion, and strong will.
