6 Movies That Will Keep You Entertained During Quarantine

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Youngstown chapter.

Quarantine has brought out the creativity in everyone. Some people are out letting their boredom in cooking, while others are reading a book or working out. And of course, if you’re a college student, there’s a good chance the majority of your day is spent writing papers or finishing assignments. But everyone deserves a break from tests, the yoga mat, and even the kitchen. Don’t worry, I’ve got you covered on some of the best movies that will take your mind off this madness.

All the Bright Places

Make sure you have tissues handy while watching this movie! The storyline sends such a powerful message that I think everyone should see. All the Bright Places follows two teenagers, Violet Markey and Theodore Finch. Both of them have their own struggles that are not apparent from the surface. However, as they get to know each other, their lives begin to intertwine in ways they could’ve never imagined. This movie is available on Netflix.

What Happened to Monday

This one is for all you action fans. This movie will have you on the edge of your seat all the way until the end. This movie takes place in a dystopian future where every couple is only allowed to have one child due to overpopulation. However, Monday is not an only child; she is a septuplet. Each of her six sisters are named after a day of the week. Whatever day matches up with their name is the day they get to go out in public. As you can imagine, it gets pretty hectic. There are so many twists you would never see coming. This movie is available on Netflix.

10 Things I Hate About You

While this movie is a classic for our generation, it only gets better each time you watch it. In 10 Things I Hate About You, Bianca Stratford’s dating life hangs in the balance of her hated sister Kat. When Patrick Verona is paid to take Kat out, he discovers that there may be something there, other than the money. Bianca also realizes that just because a boy is popular, does not mean he’s worth it. This movie is available on Disney+.

The Miracle Season

If you are looking for a movie that comes with a side of inspiration, this is the movie for you. The Miracle Season is based on a true story and begins following two best friends, Caroline and Kelley. While Caroline is the star player on a state championship volleyball team, Kelley is not. That changes after Caroline is killed in a car accident. Everyone in the town has no other choice than to come together and ‘live like line.’ This movie is available on Hulu.

Molly’s Game

This movie is definitely a change of pace from the other movies I have listed. Molly’s Game tells the story of a young woman named Molly who began running her own poker games with Hollywood’s elite after missing her chance at skiing on the Olympic Team. While showing Molly’s past of running the most high-risk poker game, it simultaneously shows the present where she is being investigated by the FBI for the poker games. Molly’s Game is based on a true story, which makes it even more unbelievable. This movie is available on Netflix.

Cheaper by the Dozen

For the last movie, I have chosen one that will never fail to make me laugh while also pulling on my heartstrings. Have you ever wondered what it would be like to have 11 brothers and sisters? Well wonder no more because this movie shows you exactly what that would be like. Fourteen people living in one house can get pretty crazy, but the Baker’s somehow find a way to make it all work, not without facing a couple of hurdles, of course. And let’s be honest, what girl doesn’t have a crush on Charlie Baker? This movie is available on Disney+.
