It’s that time of year again.
Currently we are ALL Agnes from Despicable Me. Why? Midterm season. Oh, and Halloween! Candy fiends and chocoholics, some of you are stressing about your upcoming Stats midterm, some of you are still deciding on a costume, and some of you may be like me: stressing about your sugar stash depleting.
Days of trick-or-treating may be over, but there are certain crowd-pleasing treats perfect for any upcoming Halloween potluck, office party or Netflix and study session! Even though preferences vary according to palates, I have decided to rank the top Halloween goodies that bring out everyone’s savage sweet tooth.
6. Twizzlers
Everybody loves liquorice, including vegans! All Twizzler products are kosher certified, and do not contain animal gelatin or other animal products. How cool is that? I tend to stick to the strawberry flavour, but if you’re feeling adventurous, Twizzlers also come in other flavours like cherry, watermelon, black liquorice, chocolate and more. For the daring, you may even decide to get your #TwizzlerChallenge on this Halloween. But don’t forget to donate to Autism Canada before challenging friends and family!
5. Maynard’s Fuzzy Peaches / Swedish Berries:
Even though both candies are made by Maynards, most people seem to prefer one or the other. Or maybe you’re like me and you are wondering when a hybrid of the two candies will be created – “Fuzzy Berries.” Both these candies work as excellent movie marathon snacks and as valuable exports when you are engaged in Halloween candy free trade agreements.
4. Coffee Crisp
Coffee Crisp just might be the Canadian love child of chocoholics and coffee enthusiasts. A vanilla wafer is sandwiched between coffee layers and enveloped in mile chocolate. Yum! Anyone else waiting on a Tim Hortons Coffee Crisp donut to compliment their Iced Cappuccino?
3. M&Ms
Let’s be honest, Smarties haven’t tasted the same since they removed the artificial coloring. And if we are even more honest – M&Ms are the real deal when it comes to candy coated chocolate. M&Ms also come in a variety of fun flavours: Peanut, Dark Chocolate, Crispy, M&M Minis, Pretzel and more. Plus, if you’re looking for a fun and easy costume idea for you and your squad, dressing up as M&Ms is always a good way to go!
2. Starburst
There’s a saying, “Don’t ever let someone treat you like a yellow starburst. You are a pink starburst.” I happen to like Starbursts of all colours and flavours, but apparently real love is asking someone for a Starburst and they give you a red or pink one. I think the real MVPS are those who share their LAST Starburst with you. These chewy fruit candies are hard to share and even hard to stop snacking on after just one.
And the number one Halloween candy…*drumroll*
1. Rockets
In the United States, Rockets are marketed and sold as “Smarties,” by the Ce De Candy Company Limited to avoid confusion with the Nestle chocolate. Whatever the name, Rockets are Halloween’s Official Candy. But why are they ranked the BEST Halloween candy? These small, round fruit flavoured “pills” melt in your mouth and evoke plenty of childhood Halloween memories. What other candy can make you feel like a kid all over again?
