Would You Read It?

Occasionally, I think back on classes I’ve taken the last three years I’ve been at YCP. Being a Poli Sci major, I’ve been able to branch out into different fields and get a taste of them. I really enjoyed taking all the electives I’ve chosen, such as: Psychology, Acting, Theatre, and Philosophy to name a few.

I recently remembered a question that my philosophy teacher proposed to our class. The scenario was this:

Imagine that you are in the library looking for a book and come across one that has your name on the cover. You look inside and find your entire life in the book – from your birth til now, and further in the future. You look at the chapters and see that the last one is about your death. Would you read it?

I said that I would read about my past, important events in my future, but I wouldn’t read about my death. I wouldn’t want to really read about the specifics of future events, either. You have to leave something to the imagination.

Like, I wouldn’t want to know, if I ever get married, how I was proposed to or who did it. I also wouldn’t want to know about how and when I died – I don’t think I’d be able to take it! I feel like if I, or anybody for that matter, were to find out about certain events, we’d try to change it. I’d just like to know about the good, fun, and happy times to come.

The best part about reading the book, for me, would be reliving old memories. Times when my family when to Disney World, visited my grandmother in South Carolina for the summer, the Bruno Mars concert, etc.

I would mainly want to read the book for memories I may have forgotten over the years!

I think it’s great reliving the good ole times.

So…would you read the book about your life?
