Parent-Friendly Places in York

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at YCP chapter.

We all dread it, the time when your parent(s) come to campus. What am I supposed to do with them? Where will we go? Should I take them to the dining hall? (The answer for that is no, by the way) I cannot have my parents sitting in my dorm/suite/apartment with my weird roommates around. These are the questions that go through all of our heads as soon as we know that our parent(s) are coming. The worst is trying to think of places that you all can go off of campus, especially if you are “careless” yourself while you are on campus. But never fear! I am here to guide you through your times of trouble and be your guide to this (sometimes) wonderful place called York. Don’t get me wrong, York is cool but we all have our moments right (remember the clown thing)? So let’s start out with the obvious, places that serve food and the like:

  1. Shangrila (if you are in the mood for chinese, it is the best in York)

  2. Vito’s Pizza and Beer

  3. White Rose

  4. GranFalloons

  5. Lyndon Diner

  6. Various Chain Restaurants

If you want to do something other than eat , depending on the time of the year, you can do a bunch of other stuff:

Turkey Hill Experience

Go and see how Turkey Hill makes its world famous ice cream, and even create your own flavor of ice cream!

Escape Games

They are like live interactive mysteries that you need to solve to get out of the room. This probably is not the best activity for claustrophobes and families that do not get along…

Historic Downtown York

Did you know that York was the Capital of the United States for 9 months while avoiding the British invasion of Philadelphia? Also, the Articles of Confederation were adopted while the Continental Congress gathered in 1777 and 1778. Who knew?!

Hey!  My name is Kathleen and I am a senior Biology major at York College of Pennsylvania. I am from a little town in Pennsylvania called Lititz. If you can't find me on a nice day, I will probably be found wandering a local trail. I am a huge nerd and I love being involved in the biological sciences. I try to be as green as possible, while being poor (as many of us college students are). I started writing for HerCampus, because I think I could add a different perspective to some popular issues surrounding college campuses. Happy browsing!  ~ Kathyl
