Black Friday is upon us

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at YCP chapter.

I have always loved shopping. Sometimes I love it a little too much, or at least that’s how my wallet feels. I enjoy the thrill of being surrounded by clothes or shoes and having to find the perfect match for me. Sales make it even more thrilling as I attempt to get the best deal and the most clothes for it (only time I willingly do math). So naturally one of my favorite times of year is Black Friday. I remember when I was younger and my Dad used to take my brother black friday shopping with him when it was really early in the morning. I was always jealous. When I was old enough I convinced my Mom to take me and it has been a tradition ever since.

I am not a fan of how the sales have slowly cut into thanksgiving family time starting as early as 5 of 6pm on thanksgiving day. Not only is that NOT friday, it takes away the excitement of being one of only a select few being crazy enough to shop at 3am. Additionally, there is now such thing as a PRE black friday! Who knew? Now it makes it even more confusing when you are really getting the best deal. Should I indulge in a pre-sale or wait and be potentially disappointed? Stores are just getting too competitive with each other.

Some of the best deals are actually online! Forever21 usually has a buy one get one free sale or an extra percentage off clothes. While I like the hunt in a normal store online shopping definitely has its perks in the organization category. Also, free shipping usually starts to be a thing around this time of year (thank goodness). Cyber Monday is also a great time to shop! While, I always find black Friday deals to be better some people prefer cyber Monday and some websites really get into it  (aka Amazon).

I know many people claim that black Friday is a complete myth and not really a “good deal” at all. While I recognize some of the major department stores notoriously rip you off by raising the prices right before “lowering” them: I have gotten some unbelievable deals in the past! So, give black friday a chance this year! It may be a little crazy but it’s a lot of fun!

There are many websites dedicated to showing all the big sales that will be taking place in a universal location for your easy access: check them out!
