The Girls from Chew Haven: Lauren Miller ’15, Annie Mullen ’15 and Carolina Trombetta ’15

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Yale chapter.

After hearing about Chew Haven, a recently launched New Haven food blog started by three Yalies (Lauren Miller, Annie Mullen, and Carolina Trombetta), HerCampus wanted to find out more. Here’s our interview with the girls of Chew Haven!

How did you come up with this idea?

We realized that our love of food goes beyond a late-night wenzel or g-heav run. We love trying new dishes and are always excited when a new restaurant opens up in town, so a food blog was just the thing for us.

What is Chew Haven’s goal?

Our goal is to show Yale students what’s out there on the restaurant scene, so that next time they’re thinking of going out to eat they have somewhere to turn to that offers suggestions from a student’s point of view. While sites like Yelp can be full of helpful reviews, there is an overwhelming list of opinions to navigate. For such a small city, New Haven has quite an impressive food scene, so we’d love to help students discover new places.

Who came up with the name ‘Chew Haven’?

Lauren. In the shower.

How often do you write new blog posts?

For now, we haven’t come up with a schedule because our site is still new but we hope to publish one blog post a week once Chew Haven is up and running for good.

Do you get any discounts at restaurants?

We met a few restaurant owners who gave us things for free after we told them about Chew Haven. They were really enthusiastic about what we’re doing and are always eager to see what we write.

Which restaurant has been your favorite so far?

Rubamba!

Was there any restaurant that surprised you?

Sababa was great because it was a new place that we’d never heard of before – we saw it on our way back from Katalina’s Bakery and decided it would be the next place we tried.

What’s next on the agenda for Chew Haven?

We’re still trying to go to more restaurants and get into a rhythm for writing our posts. As for later, we have some ideas but aren’t set on anything just yet.
