Living on campus makes it easy to get to classes on time, find food, and meet up with friends. You have full access to on campus activities and can take a nap between classes without worry. But the downfall to living on campus is the Xavier Bubble. Why leave campus when everything you need is in one spot? And a parking spot in R1? That’s a recipe for never leaving. The Xavier Bubble is real and here are some ways to help you get off campus and into Cincinnati!
Through Student Involvement, there’s a Saturday shopping shuttle set up that picks students up from Buenger Circle and brings them to the Rookwood Commons (where Whole Foods is), the Target/Meijer area, Kenwood Towne Center, and back to campus. It begins at noon and makes continuous loops until its last drop off at 7pm back on campus. Pick-ups are on one hour slots.
Bike XU
Stay local and visit nearby areas with Bike XU by renting a bike for $45 a semester through the Sustainability Club. If having a car on campus isn’t an option, this is a great way to get to Kroger, the Family Dollar, or to an off campus dinner with friends. Send an email to bikexu@xavier.edu for more information on how to rent a bike!
Enterprise CarShare
If you want to plan a trip for the Newport Aquarium or just want to get downtown for the day, rent a car through the Enterprise CarShare! The Enterprise office is on campus and connected to the mail center. Pay a small membership fee on their website, and when you rent you pay an hourly fee of $8 on weekdays, and $9 on the weekends.
There’s a bus stop located right next to Smith on the corner of Dana and St. Francis Way which provides a great and affordable alternative to help you get off campus. Buy a day pass for $4.50 or a 30-day pass for $70. As one of the cheaper forms of public transportation, the bus will even bring you to the UC area to enjoy Clifton nightlife.
