3 Ways to Move Your Booty and Get Active on Campus

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Xavier chapter.

MOVE YOUR BOOTY!

TRUST ME, I know it’s hard enough to balance going to all your classes, going to the Caf three times a day (does anyone still do that?), reading an entire book in three days for one class while you’re cramming for a test in another class, getting involved in clubs and extracurricular activities to strengthen your resume, having a part-time job, and daring to have a social life… working out just doesn’t fit in! There just aren’t enough hours in the day.

Well fear not my fellow collegiettes, here are some simple ways to balance everything else in life and stay fit at the same time!

1. TEAM SPORTS

Maybe you miss being part of a team in high school or maybe you never got the chance. Well don’t worry, here at X we have club sports and intramural sports too!

CLUB SPORTS

There are 27 (yes I said 27!) club sports available on campus. It ranges from your typical sports like baseball to unique hobbies like fencing and anything in between. These teams play at a competitive level that’s between between intramurals and intercollegiate athletics. So have some fun while you work up a sweat playing a sport you’ve always loved or something you’ve always wanted to try!

INTRAMURAL SPORTS

Intramurals are a great way to bring your friends together and say active at the same time. You can make your own teams and register at IMLeagues.com. Depending on the session there are sports include flag football, volleyball, basketball and softball.

2. JOIN A CLUB

Get involved and get active at the same time!

CHAARG (CHANGING HEALTH, ATTITUDES, + ACTIONS TO RECREATE GIRLS)

CHAARG is a health and fitness group that has spread across many campuses, and Xavier is lucky enough to have its very own chapter.  The club participates in various activities to motivate girls to “find their fit” instead of just jumping on an elliptical every day. They partner with different studios such as CrossFit, Pure Barre and others to expand college-aged girls horizons for workouts.

3. O’CONNOR SPORTS CENTER

Want to get in a simple, no-fuss, workout?  Then head over to O’Connor Sports Center for swimming, running, spinning, racquetball, lifting or basketball. There are machines, weights and a 6-lane pool that is free to use (when XUSwim isn’t training). All you have to do is show your Allcard!

Another huge plus of O’Connor are the FREE (yes, FREE) weekly workout classes. Anything and everything from boot camp to body sculpting. You name it they’ve got it! Check out a schedule of classes and head over there with your friends/roommates and have a blast getting fit.

According to LIVESTRONG.com, a college student should aim for about 150 minutes of exercise each week (which is about two and a half hours). With all these choices, you can get active and have fun… so grab your water bottle and get moving Xavier!
