Ways to Stay Busy when the Power Goes Out

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at WWU chapter.

With the weather that’s currently facing us, it is likely that the high winds will cause power outages throughout Bellingham.  Here are a few ideas to keep you occupied without your internet.

Get to Know Your Neighbors

Whether its because you’ve just moved in, or you’ve been too busy, you may not have had a chance to meet your neighbors, aside from the occasional nod when you run into them outside your apartment.  Invite them over for board games, or a quick meet and greet, and learn their names.  Then, the next time you see them around, you can give them a friendlier greeting.

Bring an Electric Kettle to Academic West

Academic West has a generator, and we’re pretty sure it will be unlocked on the weekends.  If you live on-campus, bring your Kettle and head to AW, to get some hot water for tea, coffee, and cup-of-noodles.

Make Shadow Puppets and Tell Ghost Stories

A throwback to when you were younger, ghost stories and shadow puppets make a cozy evening with friends.  Use your flashlights and see who can make the best shadows on the wall, and scare each other with spooky stories.

Or, of course, you could always catch up on the assigned readings for your classes.

My name is Julia, and I'm currently a freshman at Western Washington University. I love hiking and the outdoors, and drinking way too much tea.
