Now that classes have been in full swing for a while and the holidays are coming up, it’s easier than ever to get distracted from your homework and that pesky assigned reading. We all suffer from the contagious condition known as procrastination, so here are some tips to stay focused.

JUST GET IT OUT OF THE WAY

This one is easier said than done, but is easily the most effective. As soon as you get out of your last class, hit the books instead of taking a nap. By just extending your school day a little bit, no assignments are going to sneak up on you late at night and the rest of your day is assured to be relaxing.

USE THE ALARM ON YOUR PHONE

If you are too attached to that afternoon nap, you can still plan ahead. Using a simple planner or even your phone, you can set a specific time that works for every day after school. Using the alarm function on your phone the same as you do when you go to sleep helps make sure that you don’t forget to read those 14 chapters in the textbook or turn in that online assignment.

WAKE UP EARLY

If you’re insane, this one might be for you. Instead of going to sleep later or doing work in the afternoon you can wake up a couple hours before your first class. There’s quite a social following for the theory of waking up in the early morning and has been shown to be healthy, but it is hard to get started with.

GIVE IN

If you’re a pessimist, all of these tips are only delaying the inevitable. Do your homework in between Netflix loading screens and cram in as much reading the night before that big exam. This isn’t the most reliable choice but it (might) get the job done
