Fashion: The Groovy 70’s Edition

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at WWU chapter.

It’s not a throwback Thursday, or a flashback Friday, but spring 2015 has got us feeling that way with a few of its “return-to-retro” styles. We’re talking about the return of the 70’s with some of these groovy styles, and we can really dig it!

With the festival fad, these styles are popping up all over. In Forever21, H&M and some of our favorite online stores like Tobi and Nasty Gal. Just to name a few, we are seeing even more of the high-waist that we started seeing last year, and now there is a big re-emergence of the “Bell Bottom”.

Start digging through your parent’s high school and college clothes, because now it is our time to really rock ‘em!

Far Out Fringe

Fringe is looking really big this year, and looking pretty cute in Forever21’s window fronts. We are really feeling the free-spirited hippie vibe with a fringe vest or with a fringe accented top. PacSun is embracing the fringe look as well with fringe tank tops and fringe skirts.

Dope Denim

At the denim bar there are a lot of options this year. Stick with skinny or be bold with a wide legged bell-bottom. An abundance of denim is one of the biggest come backs for the 70’s look according to PopSugar. These styles can be found at Forever21 to go along with some pumps and that fringe vest.

Psychedelic Fleurs

Get the bohemian feel with these two psychadelic patterned dresses at Nasty Gal. The floral, paisley, and psychedelic patterns are here again. Coachella will be expecting a lot of these styles at the festival this year! Try out a patterned maxi dress for even more of a 70’s look.

Trippy Tie Dye

What’s more stereotypical 1970’s than tie-dye? On Tobi’s festival section, one can find any of their tie-dye essential needs. They have dresses, rompers, tops, you name it. With the light pastel colors, this is a must have for Summer 2015.

Totally Awesome Accessories

From floppy hats, flowers in our hair and those groovy round sunglasses, the 70’s are not only taking over clothing trends, but they’re taking over the accessory section too! Platform heals are also making a comeback this spring and summer like the beauties pictured above from Nasty Gal. Choose a retro accessory to give your everyday look more flare than those bell bottoms!

We can’t forget to give a shout out to the lace, jumpsuits, printed pants and peasant tops! Whether you find yourself at a festival this summer or simply lounging out in the sun, these trends are sure to catch someone’s eye. With modern twists, these can be worn at really any occasion. Move over Farrah Fawcett and Stevie Nicks, we’ll catch you on the flip side!
