7 Fashionable Ways to Keep Warm This Winter

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at WWU chapter.

Just because it’s cold outside doesn’t mean you have to pack away your cute clothes until spring quarter! And no, it doesn’t mean you have to start growing out your leg hair for extra winter insulation either. Everyone knows the struggle of trying to look fashionable without freezing when the temperatures drop. It can be tricky at times, but here are 7 suggestions of fashionable ways to stay warm AND look cute!

1. Add a scarf

Throw on a scarf over any outfit to add a pop of color, or keep it neutral so it goes with a variety of outfits. This will make you surprisingly warmer throughout the day. Easy enough, right?

2. Two words: Boot Socks

Toss aside the ankle socks and pull on some thick, cotton knee highs to keep your legs and feet extra warm inside your favorite pair of boots. Let the top of the sock peek out of your boots for a trendy look.

3. Vests make a difference

My black puffy vest has personally been a winter essential. A vest layered on top of a jacket traps your body heat around your torso and makes a huge difference in your overall warm-ness. Vests come in all kinds of styles and colors and are a cute way to mix up any outfit, while keeping you from being cold.

4. Leggings under jeans

The first time I wore leggings under jeans was at the Seahawks parade in Seattle after they won the Super Bowl. The temps were in the teens as I stood outside for hours and let me tell you that putting leggings underneath my jeans was a brilliant idea. The extra layer on your lower half keeps you nice and toasty while allowing you to wear your favorite jeans without getting chilly.

5. Beanies keep your head warm

Keeping your head warm is probably the easiest way to regulate your overall body temperature. Wearing a beanie would make the walk from Academic West all the way across campus to Wilson Library more bearable…and they’re super cute too!

6. Winter Coat

Everyone should own at least one REALLY warm winter coat in a neutral color. This can be layered over whatever you want and once you are inside you can take it off, revealing a cute outfit you would have been too cold to wear otherwise!

7. Gloves

When the temperature really starts to drop, it can almost be too uncomfortable to take your hands out of your pockets while outside. Keep a pair of gloves handy (pun intended) so you can stay warm and actually remove your hands from your pockets. Maybe even stick a couple hand warmers in there. Find these gloves on the Sherpa website.
