6 Sunny Places to Study on Campus

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at WWU chapter.

Now that the sun has finally come out here in the Pacific Northwest, many students are trying to balance their studies and the urge to soak up some sunlight.  For sunshine will you study, normal spots just won’t cut it.  Here are some places on campus, both indoor and outdoor, to catch some rays while you read.

Outdoor

Stairs to Nowhere

A well known spot on south campus, the Stairs to Nowhere are a great spot to sit down with a textbook and read. Looking to get a tan while you annotate? Sit on the big white steps and stretch out. Wanting some shade? Go over your notes while kicking back underneath the structure.  Bonus: The Comm Lawn is a hit spot for people playing with cute dogs!

Haskell Plaza

Nestled between Arntzen Hall, the Biology Building, and the Chemistry Building, Haskell Plaza is a great central location for sunny studying between classes. Lean back onto the logs, or sit at one of the outdoor tables after grabbing a frappe from the Atrium Starbucks.

Old Main Lawn

The lawn outside Old Main is the perfect place to lay down a blanket and do homework, or set up a hammock between the trees for a comfy reading spot. That is, if you can keep yourself from getting distracted by the slackliners and frisbee players.

Indoor

Miller Hall Collaborative Space

Minimalistic and clean lined, the collaborative space in Miller Hall behind the POD is perfect for sunlight ambience without having to be outside. Light colored walls and lots of large windows make the area seem big and bright, perfect for sessions of productivity!

AW Skybridge

The bridge connected to Academic West is a gorgeous place to sit down, focus, and enjoy the springtime weather without actually being in it. Overlooking the Comm Lawn, the skybridge is filled with large tables, charging outlets, and a few whiteboards for mindmapping or collaborative work. Tip: Be there in the late afternoon as the sun sets. Everything seems to glow and it’s a gorgeous sight from above!

Library

Finally, we have to talk about the Library.  While there are plenty of great places to study in either Wilson Library or Haggard Hall, not all of those places have sunny views of Red Square like the Daylight Lounge and the Skybridge.  Both areas have comfortable seating, outlets for laptops, and big windows. Plus, the Skybridge often has collaborative whiteboards sitting around just waiting to be used!

As you can see, there are plenty of places to enjoy this gorgeous weather while still taking care of your schoolwork. Have fun studying in the sun!
