When someone asked me about my passion, I never really gave it much thought. I always thought that passions were the same as common interests. So before, I would just name the interests that I liked the most. As time went on, I would still only name my favorite interests. That was, until one of my professors said that my interests do not equal my passions.
Passion is something that you put your heart and soul into. It’s something that you strive to better yourself in every day. It’s something that you can’t live without. Then it came to me. For the first time I finally knew my passion.
My passion is to be a teacher. I want to be an exceptional English teacher. I want to see my students’ faces as they light up when they learn something new. I want to be that inspiration for the student that goes to college even though they have a bad home life. I want to be that encouragement and that safe space that some kids might not have on a daily basis.
All through my life I have had teachers like that who have inspired me to do great things. In a way, this is my chance to give back. So, if you were to ask me again what my passion is, my answer is and always will be, “My passion is to be an English teacher”.
