The first few weeks of class are well underway, and we are starting to get a feel for our professors and course load. We may also be realizing that a few of our classes are bound to give us a run for our money! While the stress and homework begins to pile up, it is important that students do not forget the student help services that are provided on campus. The Walk-In Tutor Program and the Writing Center can be of major assistance to you!

The Walk-In Tutor Program is located in the Learning Center, found in Haymond Hall. The program assists with understanding course information, learning how to study and what to study, reading assignments, and even organization skills.

Wesleyan’s Writing Center, found on the second floor of the English Annex, is coordinated by Nancy Porter. Porter instructs both composition and ESL courses on campus and has much experience in education and tutoring college students. Porter believes the writing center is “a place where writers meet, talk, and find the tools to improve their writing.”

The Student Help Services on campus are often led by peer consultants. These students are experienced and hand-selected by faculty and staff to serve the student body. Walk-In Tutoring services often provide assistance in all subjects, or in small group settings where discussion is key. If a student is having trouble with writing, the Writing Center provides one-on-one assistance for all courses as well as graduate school applications, cover letters, and resumes.

Schedule for these services can be found posted all over campus. Walk-In Tutoring times and contact information have been placed in all campus mailboxes and have been arranged according to subject. Walk-Ins are welcome. The Writing Center’s scheduled hours of operation are as follows:

Monday-Friday: 1:30-4:30 pm
Monday-Thursday: 7:00-10:00 pm

The consultants and staff involved with these services are wonderful. Every student learns and is taught in different ways. Being successful is important, and students should never go without the help and assistance they need. Visit the Student Help Services on campus today to prepare for your future!
