RLCG: Fighting End of the Semester Stress

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at WVWC chapter.

At the end of the semester, it’s easy to dedicate all your time to studying and only studying. You sacrifice sleep, eating, socializing and exercise just to cram in any information for finals that you can. While finals are very important, as we all know, you can’t give up on everything else, collegiette! I have some helpful tips for surviving end of the semester balance, so keep reading!

“RLCG, I need advice on how to manage studying as well as staying healthy, in ways like working out, eating, and sleeping.”

Sincerely, Stressed out Sally

Dear Stressed out Sally,

This time is definitely stressful for everyone, but it’s also exciting and there are better days ahead (ones without classes and exams). I know that time seems to be so much more precious and crunched right now, but there are ways to still fit everything in!

First of all, use these last couple of days to your advantage—not for sleeping all day. Use the extra time you would put towards lounging into organizing your notes, and on the days you don’t have exams, use the time to put into your exercise regimen. You could even try yoga, a stress relieving exercise! Try to avoid napping during the day so that you are able to sleep at night. If you switch your nap time out for work time, you won’t have to stay up late at night to finish them, therefore you’re able to go to bed and get a good night of sleep.

Never skip meals to study. If you must study during a meal time, then study while you eat. If you don’t eat, then you definitely won’t be able to focus. Also try not to wait till late at night to eat; it could cause you to lose sleep.

Lastly, make sure you have time for some human interaction. It’s common for college students to lock themselves in their room and avoid any social interaction aside from calling in a pizza order, it’s important you maintain social interaction. In stressful times, it’s important to be around people, and can actually help relieve some of that stress. Try to make time for friends, eat a meal with them, or maybe they could even help you study! Hopefully these tips help you manage and ace your finals!
