RLCG Charles: No Makeup Dilemma

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at WVWC chapter.

Dear RLCG Charles,

I feel like a creature of the undead without makeup on, and I worry that guys will think I’m lazy, or not put together, or unattractive without it. What’s your take?

xo,

Zombie

Dear Zombie,

To be honest, I have no idea why girls think they’re scary without make-up.

I’m a guy. I don’t wear makeup.I get to wake up and go to bed without makeup on and never blink an eye.

So, I have to say, I’m a fan of the all natural look! I think it makes you more approachable, especially when you’re just hanging out or sitting on the quad with friends.

In my opinion, daily use of heavy makeup has been over emphasized by the media. Models and magazines have shown girls they should rely on the use of make-up to please a society that tells them, and shows them, airbrushed examples of beauty.

Don’t get me wrong, makeup can amplify a girl’s best features. Those bright green eyes look more amazing with a brush of mascara or eyeshadow. A girl’s smile is accentuated by a touch of lip color.

It can make you feel more confident, which makes you super attractive. And most girls like to pump up their look for special occasions!

It’s ALL ABOUT BALANCE.

There are girls who never use makeup, and these girls feel comfortable and beautiful enough in their skin to go all natural.

Try it out one weekend, and see how your feel.

If you feel too vunerable or don’t love the look, our HC WVWC ladies reccommend adding a tinted moisturizer and a swipe or two of light mascara to give an easy, fresh-faced look.

When used in excess, like a full face of “stage-like” makeup every day can make guys feel you are hiding or masking your true self. We don’t like girls who seem fake.

So why do girls believe they look scary without make up on? Often, they are afraid of letting others see what they look like without make-up on, fearing they don’t look up to society standards. Women have been shown the value of makeup for so long that they forget that their natural beauty is valuable.

Try it out, and remember – guys want to see the REAL you, not just your glamour look.
