RLCG: Celebrating International Women’s Day

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at WVWC chapter.

“This week I heard a lot about International Women’s Day, which led me to think of the question, how can I be more empowered as a woman?”

Happy (late) International Women’s Day! Women’s empowerment has definitely been on the rise recently and hopefully it will continue to be.

Empowerment is all about self-actualization and personal feelings, so only you can truly know what truly makes you feel more empowered as a person. Although I can’t tell you exactly what you need to do to feel more empowered, I can tell you some things that might help!

The first piece of advice I can give you is to be comfortable being exactly who you are, not only physically, but also be proud of all of your attributes. Believing in yourself is the first step to having others believe in you, too.

Secondly, it’s important to empower other women and never envy or compare yourself to them. We have spent far too much time tearing each other or ourselves down out of jealousy, when really, girl power is the best power.

Lastly, never settle for anything that you do not want, and never let anyone tell you what you want. Dream as big as you want, and do not, under any circumstance, give up because you feel like you’re out of place as a woman.

“The thing women have yet to learn is nobody gives you power. You just take it.” – Rosanne Barr

Until next time,
