This is an open letter to the West Virginia Wesleyan College Community:
Since I have got back to campus this semester, I have had quite a few people ask me, in some way or another, if I still went to Wesleyan. Here are some of the things I’ve heard over the past month and a half:
● “I didn’t know you still went here!”
● “I thought you transferred!”
● “I didn’t know you still lived here!”
● “Where are you living now?”
● “We all know you’re a commuter,” in reference to missing a week of classes during Snowpocalypse (see blog “Snowed In”).
● “I’ve not seen you in forever!”
Let me answer all of these questions, so we can all, as genuine as our compassionate concern is, move on to different topics of discussion when we see each other in the future.
First, yes, I do still go here, therefore I have not transferred. I still am a registered, paying student of West Virginia Wesleyan College. As much as I’ve whined and complained about being away from home and missing my family and friends and I want to just get on with my life, I’m here because I know this is where I need to be right now.
Second, I do still live here. I stay on campus some nights during the week. Some nights I stay at home due to the nature of the evening activities. On Mondays, I work, so I’m usually home. Tuesdays, I have bible study in Clarksburg, but I usually stay on campus because I carpool. On Wednesdays, I go home to work and have a date night with my man. On Thursdays, I either have practice in Junior or work. Fridays, I’m out as soon as I get out of classes to start a full weekend of ministry. This schedule would explain why you haven’t seen me in forever.
Third, I am so grateful that you all understand the busy life I have now. I am very grateful that professors are so willing to be understanding when it’s unsafe for me to be driving on treacherous roads and help me keep up when we have blizzard-esque conditions.
All of this being said, I do appreciate the campus community asking and being interested in my life. It’s cool, and I miss you too. Let’s hang out sometime. We can go get coffee, watch a movie, or just talk.
