Hello Lovely Ladies!

This week’s campus cutie is a small town boy with big town ambitions. He is outgoing and fun but also has a bit of a nerdy side. Although he is taken he is surely a great friend to anyone. So without further ado, I give you, Gabe!

Name: Gabe Garrison

Year: Sophomore

Hometown: Buffalo, W.Va.

Major: Computer science

Dream Job: Software architect

Relationship Status: Taken

Zodiac Sign: Libra

Approach or Be Approached: I like talking to people, so however we engage is great! It’s a 50/50 mix for me.

Campus Activities: Track hurdler, New Pledge at KA

Hobbies: Building computers, playing video games, camping

Favorite Quote or Motto: “Veni, vidi, vici.” I came, I saw, I conquered. It’s a method I applied to my track work ethic. I came to work, I saw what needed to be done, and I conquered the competition. What’s the point of competing if you don’t have the mindset to do everything in your power to make it work?

Perfect Date: It would be a casual night. We would cuddle up on the couch, watch some comedy or mystery movies and eat ham and pineapple pizza.

Celebrity Girl Crush: Katy Perry because she’s fun and outgoing. I like how she is different from the girl-next-door or the typical skinny model.

Favorite TV Show: Friends! It’s a classic; you cannot dislike Friends!

Favorite Food: Pizza rolls. I could eat pizza rolls to the day I die!

Are you a good dancer? I can keep up with rhythm and I can blend in well enough with the crowd. I wouldn’t consider myself a superstar, but I can surely move!

Do you have any pets? I have a cat named Solo, and two dogs one named Chewy and one named Leia. They are all Star Wars themed names!

Where do you most want to travel? Colorado inside the US because it is a big tech center and it coordinates with my career. Greece abroad because it is a big, beautiful country with lots of history!

Best asset: I am kind-hearted. It kills me to see somebody that is unhappy.  I try to do everything in my power to make someone happy and the people around me, too.

Favorite book: Maze at the Heart of the Castle, because I have always liked it. It is one of the first actual books I read as a kid and still enjoy it to this day. It’s about a guy who leaves home and he stumbles upon a castle. He gets dragged into an adventure and he learns a lot about himself. It’s a fantasy adventure novel.

Genie in a bottle, what are your three wishes? To be the best computer programmer to ever live, to be the greatest hurdler of all time, and guaranteed happiness for my parents.

Greatest moment at Wesleyan: For me it would be winning the men’s and women’s track and cross country titles both in the same year. It was really awesome because it was a culmination of a whole year’s work with everyone and seeing the fruits of our labor was magical. The circle was really memorable too.

Most embarrassing moment: When I was 13, I went to a corn maze with some friends. It was raining and muddy. My friends and I decided that it would be an awesome idea to roll around in mud. It was a ton of fun until we had to go home. My friend’s mom was a neat freak and forced us to ride in only our boxers the whole two hours home. It was pretty traumatizing at 13!

Greatest achievement: Building my first computer at 16 was a great personal achievement because nobody taught me how to work with computers. When I got my first one running, it brought me a rush of joy and my obsession with computers has continued ever since. Another of great importance to me was being able to run collegiate track. I have been running tack since I was 12, so when I got the call saying that I could be able to run, it was a dream come true. I am so happy to be able to continue running and I’m proud of all the hard work that I have put into it.

Advice to your younger self: “Play less video games and spend more time with your parents and brother.” Video games took up way too much time. My brother passed away when I was 15, and I wish I could have spent that time with him while he was here.

A Question to your future self: “Is moving out to Colorado the right thing to do or should I stay home?” I’m nervous about moving so far away from my family but I’m also concerned about my professional future if I stay here.

Living life will only inspire your work.
