Even though our college is located in small-town West Virginia, the best of each season’s trends still make it to our campus. One particular student who is always quick to catch the latest styles is Djefisah “DJ” Penn, a senior public relations major from Philadelphia, Pa. DJ is a member of the Black Student Union and Alpha Delta Pi. Her Campus WVWC spent some time talking with DJ about her personal style.

How would you describe your style?
Eccentric, classy and cute.

Where are your favorite places to shop?
H&M, Nasty Gal, Urban Outfitters and consignment shops.

What are some of your favorite trends right now?
Black leather, cropped tops, fringe, thick scarves, spikes, and crosses.

If you could raid any celebrity’s closet, whose would it be and why?
Rihanna’s! I love her style. She knows how to be sexy, classy and, most importantly, young, all at the same time. Also, the Olsen twins!

If you could live in any era for its style, which would you choose?
The 90s, definitely.

Would you rather splurge on jewelry, shoes, or purses?
Shoes!

What is the process you go through when selecting an outfit?
It’s a long process, depending on the occasion or where I’m going, but no matter what, I have to play loud music while I’m getting dressed. It gets me in a better mood to look my best.

What do you feel most confident wearing?
A leather jacket. You can never go wrong with it, except in the summertime.

How do you dress for the unpredictable Buckhannon weather?
I look up the forecast every morning before getting dressed.

Do you have a favorite color to wear?
BLACK. It’s everything!

How has your style changed since entering college, if at all?
Well, back then my style was more conservative and young. Now I wear more tight-fitting clothes and taller heels.

What advice would you give girls who are looking to improve their style?
Have fun with your wardrobe and wear what suits you and your personality. There are no limits to fashion!

No matter the outfit, DJ takes Wesleyan by storm. Let’s give her a hand!
