There are many benefits of living in a college dormitory. As a student living on campus, you get to interact with other students. You are equipped to become more involved in social gatherings in your hall but also on campus in general. It is a great experience.
However, as we all know, beating the heat during the fall semester can be a serious issue if you are living in a building with little or no air conditioning. Nobody likes sweating while trying to watch a favorite television show or finish homework before an action-packed weekend. Our dorm room is our personal space for relaxation; it is not a sauna.
Don’t worry! There are a few things you can do to keep your room as cool as possible during the last few weeks of summer! Obviously, window unit air conditioners are the most logical explanation. But what if your college does not allow them? The next best thing may come in the form of a standing fan or a box fan. A box fan can be placed in the windowsill of an open window and circulate the air or blow out the heat. These types of fans are reasonably priced and can be found almost anywhere, including the Buckhannon Wal-Mart. Also, smaller, more personal fans can be found to attach to your bed or desk area.
To cool rooms even more, remember to turn off lights that aren’t in use! While this does not always help a great deal, leaving your overhead light and lamps on for long periods of time cause them to radiate heat, which does not help your room’s cooling process. Propping open your door when you are in your room also allows air to circulate. This not only makes the room cooler, but it also give you a chance to socialize with other students in your hall.Â
Even though fall is right around the corner, use these tips and tricks to survive the last few weeks of this hot summer weather!Â
