There is always that one girl in each freshman class that has style so standout from the rest, and for Wesleyan’s Class of 2016, that girl is Ali Crawford. Whether you catch her in the library, out on the weekends or leaving track practice, she is always dressed to impress. Here’s what she had to say when we asked the West Virginia-native fashionista a little bit more about her style.
Name: Ali Crawford
Major: International Business
Hometown: Wellsburg, W.Va.
Campus Involvement: Hurdler on the Track & Field Team
HC: How would you describe your style?
AC: My style reflects my personality in the sense that I am slightly sweet, a tad sassy and a kind of a rock star.
Where are your favorite places to shop?
Actually, I really enjoy shopping at thrift stores and consignment shops. There are so many unique options to choose from – and it’s incredibly cheap, especially for a college student. But when I’m at the mall, I love Forever 21.
What are some of your favorite trends right now?
I am a huge fan of leather jackets and over-the-knee boots.
If you could raid any celebrity’s closet, whose would it be and why?
Oh, certainly Rihanna. She’s so sexy and makes even the simplest outfit look great. Her wardrobe is so fierce.
If you could live in any era for its style, which would you choose?
The 1920s. I have an obsessive passion for all things vintage.
Would you rather splurge on jewelry, shoes, or purses?
Most definitely shoes. The right pair of shoes can complete an outfit. But, at the same time, a girl can never have too much jewelry.
What is the process you go through when selecting an outfit?
First, I decide what pants I am going to wear that day. Then, I like to build my outfit depending on the look I want to portray, and then finally by the kind of shoes I plan on wearing.
What do you feel most confident wearing?
I feel most confident when I am wearing an outfit that fits my body just right, you know? It’s snug in all the right places, complements my body shape and makes me feel pretty.
How do you dress for the unpredictable Buckhannon weather?
I try not to let weather design my dress code, but typically a cute scarf and boots will do the trick.
Do you have a favorite color(s) to wear?
I absolutely love reds, blacks…and cheetah.
How has your style changed since entering college, if at all?
I think that my style has become more fearless. In high school, the dress code is so severely strict that there isn’t my room to play with clothes. College has allowed me to express myself without getting in trouble. There are now some things that I would not have even considered wearing in high school, but I love to wear them here.
What advice would you give girls who are looking to improve their style?
Let your style define and reflect who you are as a person. Confidence is worn best by a girl who isn’t afraid to take risks and be different.
And there she is, Collegiettes: Miss Ali Crawford!
