College is a significant adjustment for most students. As young adults, individuals often “grow up” and mature throughout his or her college years. More often than not, however, this sense of maturity will lead to great responsibility. Some individuals decide to party with friends or develop some type of casual drinking phase. Some students decide not to drink or be around alcohol at all. No matter the stance a person decides to take, it is important to be educated about alcohol and realize how dangerous a “good time” can become.

College students should keep in mind that alcohol of any kind acts as a depressant. Do you ever wonder why people slur their speech when they’re intoxicated? Alcohol slows down your body’s functions. Fast. It is absorbed into your bloodstream, and it not only affects your speech, but it also affects your perception and judgment. Effects are obviously determined by how much one takes in, but alcohol overdose and abuse is always severe. It’s also common on college campuses.

The Wellness Center on campus offers a series of educational events including Alcohol 101. This course tells about alcohol and the various effects it can have on one’s body (and even on one’s life). The campus also enforces a very strict alcohol policy to ensure the safety of students. Be sure to check out these means of awesome information and get educated about alcohol. Remember! It is okay to say no, and, if individuals do consume alcohol, be safe!
