WHAT IS GOING ON IN THE NFL RIGHT NOW?

What a week, what a month. How are we Eagles fans? The Chiefs are still undefeated, which annoys me. Anyways, what is going on in the NFL? Now, the NFL is in full swing, with so many unexpected wins and injuries, might I add. This whole thing can be hard to follow; there’s something crazy happening every week! I have your guide if you’re not in the mood to spend hours scrolling.

The Philadelphia Eagles

I am opinionated about the Eagles, so we can talk about them first. First of all, my king Jalen Hurts and a health update as of October 19. He is on injured reserve with deep vein thrombosis and blood clots in both lungs. I was devastated when I heard the news. It may sound dramatic, but you didn’t see my texts to my friends. He is clinically stable and expects a full recovery, but it’s still scary, and I hope he’s okay. He could miss the rest of this season. We are down so many men right now and have four consecutive losses. I think it will all be okay, well, hopefully! I am positive about the next few weeks. We play the Cowboys on Monday, and we better win.

The Teams to Beat

Here we are again; the Chiefs are on top. At 5-0, they remain the only undefeated team in the AFC. Worthy has stepped up as Rice and Thornton are out. They face the defending Super Bowl champs on October 25, which should be a great game. As of right now, the 49ers are also 5-0 heading into their game in Washington tonight (I’m writing this on Monday). Finally, the Vikings deserve some attention as well. They are the final undefeated team along with San Francisco and Kansas City. Recently, they held the New Orleans Saints to just 13 points in a 23–13 victory. If they keep the momentum up and stay on top with the 49ers and the Chiefs, they could be in the Super Bowl conversation. I’m not saying they’re destined for it; their upcoming schedule is going to be more difficult, but you never know.

The Disappointing Division

Well, I already covered the Eagles, but they aren’t the only ones in a slump right now. Sadly, the NFC East has been one of the greatest disappointments this season. No one out of the 4 teams (Commanders, Cowboys, Eagles, Giants) has established themselves as a real contender this year. It also hurts that 3 out of 4 have a losing record. The Giants vs. Commanders game ended in a tie. Like, what! They both had a chance to win it in overtime, and blew it! And both the Eagles and Cowboys are sitting at 2-4, yikes.

Serious Troubles

There are two winless teams in the NFL right now. The Chargers are at 0-6 and are off to the worst start since 2000. The Dolphins are sitting at 0-5. There’s pressure to turn this season around for them; next up is the Jets. Hopefully they will get a win under their belts. The Titans got their first win yesterday vs. the Colts. They are now 1-5. Finally, the Rams have fallen and are last in the NFC West at 2-4. There’s still time to turn things around, but there is definitely some pressure.

Could These Teams Surprise Us?

The Patriots fell short last February in California. They’re now 4-2 and building more momentum. That shaky start is starting to build back up to the defending AFC champs. The Cleveland Browns beat the Baltimore Ravens last night. Now, there is a three-way tie in the AFC North between the Browns, Ravens, and Steelers. The Browns are worth watching because their defense and ability to win close games are exciting. The Buffalo Bills are also worth watching. They are 5-1, with Allen continuing to give the team a chance against all their opponents. Finally, the Chicago Bears are 4-2 after winning against Atlanta. They bounced back after their loss in Green Bay. It’s still early, but all these teams are making a case for themselves.

Last Year’s Super Bowl Winners

Coming off their Super Bowl victory, the Seahawks started with high expectations: to defend their title. However, that is easier said than done. Seattle sits at 3-3 after losing to the Broncos. Their offense has become an issue due to a high volume of turnovers, but their defense and special teams are showing a strong performance. Seattle needs to find a rhythm again if they want to be Super Bowl contenders again.

The NFL is unpredictable. So many things happen that change everything so quickly, like my guy Jalen Hurts. Right now, some teams are proving they should be considered Super Bowl contenders, while others aren’t living up to expectations. There’s still plenty of football left to play. So many questions are in the air. Can the Eagles bounce back? Can the three undefeated teams keep up their momentum? Will the Chiefs make another Super Bowl run? I really hope not. Enough is enough. One thing is for sure: this season has been filled with so many ups and downs.
