THE VICTORIA’S SECRET FASHION SHOW: LET’S TALK ABOUT IT

This year’s show put on by Victoria’s Secret was honestly very good. I enjoyed the variety in the live performers. The different music genres did add a different touch to the show, which was very nice. I also enjoyed the portrayal of the 4 seasons. There were, of course, some very iconic parts of the show, but also some things that weren’t the best. Let’s talk about it.

The opening of the show

So, the beginning of the show was decent. I loved Bella Hadid’s wings, but was honestly sick of that green color. Why did they put so many people in it? Bella, of course, will do well and look good no matter what, but maybe a different color, or a different shade of green. Now, when Anok Yai walked out, I was a little disappointed. When I first saw her, I thought that she would open her arms into some sort of wing. I understand the vision with the spring theme, but they did her a little dirty. She looked amazing, of course, but the flower look could have been brought into something so much more. Adriana Lima. That’s all I can say. She is just amazing; her wings were perfect for the theme, but again, that green color. I was a very big fan of the light pink flowers, and the light pink color in general. That gives Victoria’s Secret on every level. I think the biggest controversy from the opening and the spring section was Megan Moroney’s performance. In my opinion, her vocals were good, and her performance wasn’t bad; it was just her spatial awareness. It is probably very hard to go from performing on a big stage to a small runway with wings on that block your view and models walking down the runway.

The Summer Section

This was probably one of my least favorite looks of the show. I understand the vision, and there were a few looks that really stood out, but some of the stuff just looked a little tacky. I did like the color palette. What didn’t look tacky was Tate McRae. Her look and her performance were amazing. When she walked down that runway, she literally looked like one of the models. My only critique about Tate was that I felt like they highlighted her more as a performer and didn’t have her just as the vocals doing a small performance while models walked. It was very entertaining, but it was a lot of Tate, and the other vocalists didn’t get that same opportunity.

The PINK Halftime Section

Okay, now this was my least favorite part of the show. Now it is expected that the PINK portion isn’t supposed to outshine the rest of the show, but I really did not like the PINK part at all. The only looks I liked were on Quenlin Blackwell and Gabi Moura. Their looks were actually good and very eye-catching. The poor girl who had to walk out in the red winter hat and green leg warmers. Why would they ever do her like that? She is so gorgeous. The look was not cute at all. But besides the looks, the real reason I did not like the PINK section was because of Katseye. I am not a big fan of their music to begin with, but when you look at their Gap Jean ad, I had hope for the show. I was wrong. They were in the way of all the girls walking. The first girl to walk, Trinity Rodman, was barely visible. She should never have been blocked. She is a professional women’s soccer player and an Olympian, and yet her debut moment was overlooked by Katseye performing. She deserved to be seen; she has worked so hard to achieve everything she has wanted. I think they were too big of a group to be performing and dancing on stage while girls were walking. If they were stationary and dancing or maybe off to the side, it wouldn’t have been a problem, but they were just in the way. Also, did you catch the one girl in Katseye dropping her microphone? Again, they just did not perform the best.

The Switchover into Autumn

This was by far my favorite section of the show. Just the muted nude colors were so chic and perfect for the vibe. From the first look at this section, I knew it would be amazing. It was such a strong opening look. I am always a fan of Ming Xi, but her look in this section was literally perfect for her. She is just unreal. Alex Consani was, of course, gorgeous. The gold wings suited her so well. When Abby Champion walked out in that black and gold look, I was in awe. I loved the black wings with the gold tips, and that gold sheer cover-up was a perfect touch. Now, Elsa Hosk having the biggest wings for her comeback was iconic. I loved everything about it.  My favorite part was when all the models came out and then formed a triangle on the runway. It was just perfect. The nude look with the flow behind them.

The Change into Winter

This was my second favorite part of the whole show. I loved all the white looks, and the touches of black. The group of three girls walking side by side was just chef’s kiss. Now, when Megan Thee Stallion came out, oh my god. She is just so gorgeous, and her look complemented her so well. Her vocals weren’t the best, but her performance made up for it.

The Fantasy Bra

Victoria’s Secret brought back the fantasy bra for the first time since 2018 and gave it to Kylie Jenner. Some people did not like that, but honestly, I loved it. I feel like to bring back the fantasy bra, they needed someone new who would bring attention, and Kylie did just that. Kylie literally looked like a goddess. When they revealed her, my jaw was on the floor. No notes, a 10/10 look. All the looks to follow the revealing of the fantasy bra were also very good. My girl Barbara Palvin, aka Mrs. Sprouse, was my favorite. I just love her so much, and the fact that she just had a baby makes her even more iconic and gorgeous. She shows the determination women have to work for what they want and love. I just love when they pan to Dylan Sprouse because he is completely okay with having his wife shine, and he wants it all for her. They are just such a good couple. Anok looked amazing at the end in the all-white look. They definitely redeemed her. Adriana Lima closing the show was just the cherry on top. She looked amazing and owned the floor. It is rumored that this was her last show, and if that is true, she definitely went out with a bang.

Final Thoughts

Overall, it was an amazing show. There were, of course, some hiccups, but the show overall made up for them. My rankings of the performers are Tate McRae, Megan Thee Stallion, Megan Moroney and then Katseye. I think they were all good, but the top stood out more. My favorite models were Barbara Palvin Sprouse, Alex Consani, Anok Yai, Adriana Lima, Abby Champion, Ming Xi, Bella Hadid, Elsa Hosk and Candice Swanepoel in no particular order. Everyone did amazing and looked amazing, but they are just such standout and iconic Angels. Barbara and Elsa walking after just having a baby is so iconic, and honestly shows true womanhood. Working for what they love and showing how hard they can work. These are just my thoughts on the show, so of course some might disagree. In the end, Victoria’s Secret has put on worse shows, and this was not one of them.
