Spring Break Destinations 2014

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at WVU chapter.

As students scramble to finish their midterm papers and portfolios, there is only one thing on their mind: spring break! Here are a few of the most popular spring break destinations for college students:

Panama City Beach

Located in Florida, PCB ranks #1 in popularity among college students all around the nation. The most common spots to crash are the Laketown, Shores of Panama, Paradise Palms, and Summit Condominiums. During the day time a lot of students venture down to the beach to catch some rays or head down to the pools at their resort for a daytime pool party. During the nighttime, there are several places to go to for some fun. One of the most popular spots is Club La Vela, noted as the largest 18+ clubs in the United States. Some other hot spots in PCB are Hammerhead Fred’s, Harpoon Harry’s, and Sharky’s Beach Club.

Miami

Miami, also located in Florida, is quickly rising as one of the popular spring break locations for students and giving some serious competition to the student resorts in Panama. Cheap and easy to get to, a lot of students are choosing to carpool and drive down to Miami instead of taking a flight this year. Many students who attend school in Florida and near Miami are also choosing to stay there and accommodate their friends who are visiting. There are hotels and motels every few feet in Miami, so there is a place to stay for everyone’s different taste and budget. No visit to Miami can be considered complete without taking a visit at South Beach- the quintessential Miami hot spot. There are many things to do during the day and also many places to shop in Miami and especially South Beach. South Beach is known for its nightlife scene, particularly for college students. From clubs and bars to comedy clubs and exclusive VIP music scenes, there is always something for everyone to do.

Cancun

Located in Southeastern Mexico, Cancun is the number one city to go to if you’re looking to go somewhere out of the country. Most people book through travel agencies, most commonly organizations like StudentCity, who offer great deals on packages for college students. Oasis Cancun is the StudentCity headquarters and is an all-inclusive, student-friendly resort in the center of all the spring break action. There are also other resorts a few minutes away such as Krystal Cancun, Gran Caribe Real, Omni Cancun, Salvia Condos, and many others. Spring break in Cancun also offers excursions, tours, and cruises. In 2013, spring break in Cancun was taken to a whole new level with the first ever Inception Music Festival. Over 30,000 people attended the inaugural festival which lasted for 30 days and nights starring some of the world’s top EDM DJs such as Tiesto, Alesso, Hardwell, Nicky Romero, Afrojack and tons more.

Puerto Vallarta

Another great spot to spring break in Mexico is Puerto Vallarta (PV). With its legendary day parties, spring break contests, and beach activities, PV is highly recommended as a fun spring break destination for students. Many stay in Las Palmas by the Sea, which is located in the heart of the heart of the Hotel Zone and 10 minutes away from the airport. PV offers many nightlife options with many upscale nightclubs such as Mandala, Hilo, The Zoo, and Punto V.
