Some may disagree, but I strongly believe horror movies are meant to be enjoyed year-round, not just during the spooky season. However, I would have to admit that they definitely hit harder when Halloween is right around the corner. This includes not only horror films, but any movies that are able to capture that eerie feeling that October brings. Even though this month is flying by fast, I plan to watch these movies before the month is over! There are a few horror movies that have come out recently, or are soon to be released, that I think deserve a watch. If you want to get into the Halloween spirit, maybe this will help you out. Â
Resident EvilÂ
Out of the 4 films on this list, I am most excited to check this one out! Resident Evil stars actor Austin Abrams, who has been in many well-known pieces like Euphoria, Chemical Hearts, Dash & Lily and Do Revenge. But his career has really started to pick up steam after the release of Weapons last year and now Resident Evil. He plays Bryan Hodukavich, who is a medical courier sent on a task to deliver an important package to another hospital. He ends up getting stuck in an outbreak full of mutants and must fight every second to survive. This storyline takes place at the same time as the video game Resident Evil 2, but Bryan is an entirely new character. Â
Other MommyÂ
This film was released in theaters on Oct. 9th and stars famous actress Jessica Chastain, who plays 2 roles in this movie. She plays the mother Ursula, as well as the sinister entity “Other Mommy.” This movie centers around Bela, who is an eight-year-old girl whose parents are having issues in their marriage. Other Mommy appears from Bela’s closet and becomes more and more sinister as the movie progresses. This movie is being marketed as having more jump scares than any movie out right now, so keep that in mind if you’re thinking about watching!Â
CrawlersÂ
Also starring a more underground cast is the movie Crawlers, which will come out on October 16th. A deadly spider infestation terrorizes the tenants of Paradiso Palms, forcing them to remain quarantined in this apartment complex with no way out. The police leave them to die, so the building manager, who is played by Matilda Lutz, must overcome her arachnophobia and attempt to help her tenants escape.Â
ClayfaceÂ
Clayface is coming to movie theaters on October 23rd and is starring Tom Rhys Harries, whom you may or may not have seen on screen before. He plays Matt Hagen in this DC Universe film. Matt Hagen is a rising Hollywood star who seems to be on the path to success, until his obsession with scientific discovery takes over his life. As he begins to transform into Clayface, he loses all sense of self and spirals down a path of revenge. Â
