Picture Editing Apps for a Picture Perfect Summer

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at WVU chapter.

Do you ever stalk those Instagram accounts with thousands of followers and AMAZING pictures?  And you cannot even fathom how they get every picture to look so perfect? Sometimes I find accounts where their ENTIRE feed matches and I am sitting there like:

Well here are a few photo editing apps to help you make your feed look perfect especially with all your Summer adventures coming up!

1)    VSCO:  Many already know of this picture editing app that has many filters that you can adjust to your liking.  What is awesome about this app is that there are categories that tell you where the filters belong in.  For example, if you are looking for a minimalistic look, there is a category called “The Minimalist Collection” containing 10 filters that adjust contrast and brightness automatically.

2)    Afterlight: This app contains filters as well as the option to adjust each element (contrast, brightness, saturation, etc.) on your own.  Also, there is the option to give your photo either an older look by adding “dust” and the effect instant cameras have with light leaking into the image. Light leaks are fun elements to add to summer photos to emphasize the bright, fun days you are having.

3)    Snapspeed:  My holy grail of editing apps. This was recommended to me by a photographer who works with famous people such as Skrillex.  It adjusts the same elements as other apps like contrast, brightness, and saturation but with more and way better!  Also there is a brush technique incase you wanted to change a tiny part of the picture instead of the entire thing.  For example, after editing your picture you seem to find that your arms are tanner than your legs… Use the brush technique to help even the tones!

4)    Facetune: This is perfect for minor adjustments such as blurring out blemishes, whitening teeth, evening out skin tone, and also reshaping anything you want!

5)    Snug:  This is AWESOME for those who want their feed to match and want to test out a photo before posting it. All you have to do is log into your account and your pictures are loaded into the same format! You can post photos to it to see if you want to actually upload it later! This makes it so you don’t have to do that quick delete after realizing you don’t like it.

Hi, my name is Vanessa and I am a Fashion Merchandising major. I also am a Fourth Degree Black Belt martial artist with aspirations of becoming an actress/model! I joined HerCampus because I love absolutley everything about the website such as beauty, fitness, lifestyle, relationship advice, and keeping up with celebrities! I enjoy reading all these articles and I hope you enjoy reading mine.
I grew up in Charleston, West Virginia. Growing up here I knew there was a possibility of going to West Virginia University my entire life. Although I decided to start my college career at the University of Kentucky, those country roads led me back to WVU in the spring of my sophomore year. This was also the point when I decided to establish myself as a Broadcast Journalist student. Since this point I have strived to become the best possible journalist I can be. I am currently working as a weekend reporter for WDTV-Channel 5 in Clarksburg, West Virginia. Prior to receiving this position, I worked as an intern with WCHS-tv/FOX11, in the summer of 2014, where I learned critical editing, interviewing, writing, and speaking skills. I worked closely with anchors, reporters, editors, directors, producers, and even the web team. Aside from the television industry, I am the Campus Correspondent for the West Virginia University Chapter of the online entertainment magazine, Her Campus. Another position I currently hold is the Social Media Chair of WVU’s Radio Television Digital News Association Chapter. In the Fall of 2012, I became a sister of the Alpha Phi Fraternity, in which I held the position of ‘Big Sister Chairman.’ My other passions include horse back riding, scuba diving, being outdoors, and running. I am very adventurous and I try to stay well rounded. My goal in life is to live life to the fullest and be the best possible version of myself. My ultimate goal would be to earn a spot as a reporter/anchor for Fox News, New York. I plan to graduate in December of 2016 and look forward to my future.
