In a world of cinephiles and celebrities trying to impress us, LetterBoxd top fours are becoming more and more obscure. Now, I understand that film is an art and some people dedicate their time and money to it, and I am not better than them for picking basic or funny films. However, what is wrong with silly goofy movies or classic rom-coms?Â
One time I let a guy off Hinge look at my LetterBoxd and was retiquelled for my taste in movies. Now celebrities on the red carpet are trying to impress us, but who am I trying to impress? Some guy I’ll message for 2 days? So here is my unapologetic Top 4.
“The Fever Pitch”Â
The Fever Pitch gets my number one spot because it is my all-time comfort film. It’s a Boston-based rom-com starring Drew Barrymore (Lindsey) and Jimmy Fallon (Ben). The movie follows the relationship of Ben and Lindsey as the Red Sox’s season unfolds. Ben is a school teacher, Red Sox superfan, and Lindsey is a busy businesswoman.Â
“Scooby-Doo: Spooky Island”Â
This is the most nostalgic film for me. I remember watching this in the back of my mom’s van for every road trip. The thing is, I outgrew a lot of movies I used to watch, but this movie is still a classic for me. My sister and I still quote this movie weekly, and the comedy in the movie is still funny. As I grow up, I catch more jokes like Shaggy’s vacation fling being named Mary Jane.Â
“Bridesmaids”
This movie made my top 4 last spring when I watched it on a flight to Utah for spring break. I genuinely could not stop laughing audibly; the people next to me were not pleased. As an avid comedy fan, this movie is one of my favorites. The main cast is the perfect ensemble of comedians/actors that deliver the perfect mix of hilarious and heartwarming scenes.Â
“The Town”
The Town is the second Boston-based film to make my top 4. However, this film has a very different tone. It follows Ben Affleck (Doug) and his Boston native friends who steal trucks and rob banks for a living. This movie is one of my favorites because it has everything: a love story, action, Ben Affleck and comedy (Blake Lively’s “Boston” accent).
