Meet the Next Don Draper, Evan Green

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at WVU chapter.

Evan Green is not your average college senior. Aside from finishing up his senior year as a Strategic Communications major, Evan is the President of a marketing agency on campus, and just won the Outstanding Senior Award in The Reed College of Media. I had the chance to catch up with him about his position as President and his future endeavors. After learning more about him, I think we have the next Mad Men star, Don Draper, in the making.

Me: Tell me a little about yourself.

Evan: I’m a 22-year-old from Northern Virginia, just outside Washington, DC. I major in Advertising and my favorite hobbies include cooking and watching food documentaries. When I’m not eating or studying, I’m probably drinking coffee, watching soccer, or laughing at my own jokes.

Me: You’re the President of Martin Hall Agency. What is Martin Hall Agency and what are some of the things you do as President?

Evan: The Martin Hall Agency is a student-led advertising agency out of the Reed College of Media. We work with student organizations and both local and regional clients. Our main bottom line is to give our members the experience to work with clients and figure out if advertising and public relations is something they want to pursue a career in.

As President, I oversee the show. I spend my time in this role doing project management, handling team organization, and network potential partnerships for the organization to ensure every piece of work is to its highest quality for our clients.

Me: What made you get into advertising/strategic communications?

Evan: I came to WVU as a Business Administration student, but I didn’t feel that it was the path for me. As cliché as it sounds, I grew inspiration from watching the show Mad Men when making the switch in majors, and I have not looked back. I always saw myself as someone who was creative, and advertising is a perfect outlet for me to utilize my skills.

Me: You’re graduating; what are some of things you are going to miss about WVU?

Evan: The things I will miss the most about WVU is the school spirit we have around campus and the amenities we get as students, like the Student Rec Center, and the diversity of students around campus; everyone has a different story. I feel like those are things many people take for granted while they’re here.

Me: What are your plans for the future to come?

Evan: My plan for the future is to build off of the success I have had here in Morgantown, and move to either New York City or back home to DC. I will try to work in advertising, of course. Aside from professional goals, I want to pick up photography and traveling as hobbies in my spare time.

Hey, everyone! I'm Jamie. I'm a Senior Strategic Communications major with Emphasis in Public Relations. I'm a Pittsburgh native, and after graduation I hope to pursue my passion in Public Relations and writing!
I grew up in Charleston, West Virginia. Growing up here I knew there was a possibility of going to West Virginia University my entire life. Although I decided to start my college career at the University of Kentucky, those country roads led me back to WVU in the spring of my sophomore year. This was also the point when I decided to establish myself as a Broadcast Journalist student. Since this point I have strived to become the best possible journalist I can be. I am currently working as a weekend reporter for WDTV-Channel 5 in Clarksburg, West Virginia. Prior to receiving this position, I worked as an intern with WCHS-tv/FOX11, in the summer of 2014, where I learned critical editing, interviewing, writing, and speaking skills. I worked closely with anchors, reporters, editors, directors, producers, and even the web team. Aside from the television industry, I am the Campus Correspondent for the West Virginia University Chapter of the online entertainment magazine, Her Campus. Another position I currently hold is the Social Media Chair of WVU’s Radio Television Digital News Association Chapter. In the Fall of 2012, I became a sister of the Alpha Phi Fraternity, in which I held the position of ‘Big Sister Chairman.’ My other passions include horse back riding, scuba diving, being outdoors, and running. I am very adventurous and I try to stay well rounded. My goal in life is to live life to the fullest and be the best possible version of myself. My ultimate goal would be to earn a spot as a reporter/anchor for Fox News, New York. I plan to graduate in December of 2016 and look forward to my future.
