Name: Candace Nelson
Age: 21
Hometown: Wellsburg, W.Va
What first got you interested in the journalism field?: “I was browsing career paths my junior year of high school and came across a job ad for an editor. I knew I always liked editing other students’ papers in class, and I had a passion for news, so I knew at that point combining the two would be my dream job. After I took a few journalism classes, I was hooked.”
What are your plans after college?: “I graduate in May, and I’m applying for graduate school. Ultimately, I’d love to be an editor at a major newspaper or magazine because it’s my true passion. I love taking a piece of work and forming it into the absolute best it could be.”
What advice do you have for journalism students?: “Get involved with as much as you can handle. I’ve ventured outside of the print spectrum of journalism, and I loved it. It’s important to try a bunch of stuff now so you can figure out what you like the best.”
