Autumn becoming winter is oftentimes a sign to students that the end of the semester is upcoming, meaning it is time to focus on classes as finals are fast approaching. Whether you are struggling, doing well or simply figuring it out as you go in classes, it is essential to have a proper way to study to ensure your finals go well. Not everyone studies, understands and comprehends information in the same way, which is why it is important to find a method that works for you. This takes time, but through trial and error you should be able to figure out what works best for you. Here are a few methods that can help you put your best foot forward during the upcoming final’s season:Â
Create a calendar
Making a calendar to track assignments, homework, exams and more can be beneficial to understand how to study. A calendar can hold you accountable, as you can block off times throughout the week for study specific time. Seeing what is upcoming may help you prioritize which assignments and tests you need to study for at a specific time which can reduce stress as you see achievable in front of you.Â
Utilize your resources
At WVU there are a series of different resources that can help students do the very best in their classes. One resource is the REACH Student Success Center, which aims to help students out which study methods and habits work best for them. Through success coaches, peer assistants and workshops, WVU has many resources to help students succeed. Another resource are the 15 tutoring centers across all WVU campuses. Each of these centers are there to help students get help fast regarding any classes they may be struggling in.Â
Study with a partnerÂ
Studying with a friend can help success in a class as it allows for a conversation between two people to help understand content better. By making practice problems to go over together, teaching each other new or existing material or working with someone from your class (or someone who has taken the class before) can help encourage motivation instead of procrastination.Â
Find study methods that work for you
There are so many methods of studying, which is why finding out which way works best for you is important. Whether it’s creating flashcards, going over previous homework assignments or cramming at the last minute, it is smart to understand which method suits you best before it is too late.
