How To Dress For The Holidays On A Budget

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at WVU chapter.

The holiday season is the perfect time to dress your best for all the festivities we love during the season. But this is also a time when money tends to get tight with gift-giving and festive occasions, this is where budgeting comes into play. How can I look amazing at a Christmas party but still have enough to buy my mother the perfect gift? Surprisingly there are several ways to keep your style without becoming broke.

1. Shop your closet

There have been many times I have stressed about what to wear, only to dig through my closet and find a dress I have forgotten about. Make sure to look deep through your closet before you splurge on new clothing pieces. You can also consider using what you already have and make it more festive by adding accessories such as these shimmering tassel earrings and a matching handbag.

2. Rent Clothes

Renting clothes is the perfect way to find something unique and fashionable without breaking the bank. Online sites that you can rent clothing from such as Rent The Runway, Gwynnie Bee and Stitch Fix provide quizzes to help you find your perfect style and fit. You also have the option to buy clothing pieces if you decide you want to keep them!

3. Utilize Consignment Shops

Consignment shops provide ways for individuals to re-sell gently used clothing. These options are great for original and inexpensive pieces. Online shops such as eBay, TheRealReal and Poshmark have high-end, lightly used fashions.

4. Take Advantage of Black Friday Sales

Black Friday is the perfect opportunity to find pieces while scoring reduced prices. Research what stores are having sales. I promise the madness and stress of Black Friday are worth it when you score items for half off or more!

5. Find Your Style and Research Stores

Depending on the occasion and your style, you could find the exact clothing pieces you need at certain stores. If you’re wanting a glam and elegant look, pieces that have sequins, velvet or satin give off the luxury vibe. Stores like ASOS, H&M and NastyGal cover this department. If you’re looking for a more casual look stick to the classics such as blouse with your favorite jeans or a cozy sweater dress with knee-high boots. You can find inexpensive casual pieces at Forever21 or Fashion Nova
