Joe Rosati, secretary of the fraternity of Pi Kappa Alpha, hopes to win the crown of Homecoming King this upcoming Saturday. Growing up in Saratoga Springs, NY, Rosati decided to come to West Virginia University for the atmosphere. He graduated from Saratoga Springs High School in NY with a large class of 500 students, and he wanted to go to a big state school. Along with that, Rosati enjoys sports and liked the idea of having a big football program. Once he visited WVU, he fell in love with the campus and knew it was where he belonged. Being an active member in PKA, he dedicates a lot of his time to the fraternity and was even the co-chair of philanthropy last year in which he helped raise over two thousand dollars for the fire department. Rosati is also the treasurer for Beta Alpha Psi, which is the business honor society. Outside of the Greek community, he is a violinist for the WVU symphony.
Q: What made you want to run for Homecoming King or Queen?
I always thought it would be something cool to do. Seeing people campaign throughout the past couple of years, I thought it would be something fun to do. That’s why I’ve tried to stay as involved as possible, build my resume up. That’s one thing I’ve kept on the back of my mind, hopefully it will give me more of a shot to do something like this. Also, Matt Elder, who ran last year, I’m really good friends with him so I saw how he did it and thought, “I can do that”. So if he can do it, I can do it. So here I am, I’m giving it a shot. Our president of the fraternity, Graham, asked me if I wanted to run.
Q: Why do you think you would be a good King or Queen and why do you deserve this title?
I think the biggest reason is because I represent a lot of different types of students on campus. I associate with different types of the student body. I’m really social, I know a lot of people on campus, I’m in a fraternity but I’m also involved in music seeing as I’m in the school of music. I can be friends with kids there so I think I represent a lot of different sections in the student body.
Q: What does WVU mean to you?
I think WVU is the greatest university in the country. It’s full of students who are very passionate for their school and the things their involved in. We’re passionate about our sports teams and it’s just a really vibrant campus with a lot going on.
Q: What would it mean to you if you were named the 2015 Homecoming King or Queen?
It would obviously be a huge honor and I’ve had a lot of people doubt me. Like, I grew up really overweight and people used to make fun of me a lot so I think this could be something I could tell all of the haters “look where I’m at”.
Q: What are your connections to the state of West Virginia?
I wish I had more to offer for the question, but I don’t have a lot. I think it’s a terrific state. The mountains and everything; it’s a really outdoorsy state. I just went white water rafting a couple of nights ago and that was quite an experience.
Q: If you had one message for the students of WVU, what would that message be?
Put your school work first, and then rage on.
