Summer is that time of the year that everyone looks forward to, and with the warm weather and beach days only weeks away, right now is the perfect time to figure out what you want your summer to look like. From late nights, spontaneous plans, trips with friends and a break from the routine, summer is a time to relax. But the best summers don’t happen by accident, they require a little bit of planning and effort if you have goals for what you want to do. So, instead of waiting until school ends to figure out your plans, here are a few ways to get an early start on your summer plans:

Make A Bucket List

Before summer even starts, take a second to really romanticize what you want your summer to look like. This is your chance to dream a little and make your summer what you want it to be. Think about those late-night drives, beach days, coffee runs with friends, concerts, trips or even the simple things like trying a new pop-up or finally reading that book you’ve been putting off. A bucket list is the perfect way to have a few ideas on what you want to do, with nothing to hold you accountable if you don’t accomplish everything. The list doesn’t have to be perfect or super detailed, but it can be a tool to help you be more intentional with your time. Writing it down makes everything feel more real and gives you something exciting to look back on when summer is flying by.

Send In Applications

If you’re planning to make your own money, build your resume or just stay busy over the summer, getting ahead on applications is a total game-changer. Right now is the perfect time to apply for a job, as it is slightly ahead of schedule and gives you time to figure out what you want to do. If you keep pushing it off, your options may be limited, so take advantage of the opportunities you have now. Another perk about sending in your application now is that you can plan to have fun, part-time jobs with your friends or be a part of an internship. Internships are a great way to keep learning while also building your resume. Even if you’re not 100% sure what you want yet, updating your resume and applying early gives you way more freedom later. Future you will seriously thank you when you’re already set up and not stressing at the last minute.

Plan Ahead

Summer has a way of filling up fast, especially when everyone suddenly wants to make plans all at once. That’s why thinking ahead makes such a difference. Whether it’s a big trip, weekend getaways, concerts or even just making sure your friend group actually locks in plans, being proactive helps everything come together smoother. Even if you may not follow through on the plans, it’s good to have an idea and put it out there. Plus, half the fun is in the anticipation, so having things on your calendar gives you something exciting to look forward to while you finish out the school year.

Prioritize The Things That Matter

As much as we want to do everything, summer always comes down to time management. We have nearly three months to do everything we want to do, and even though that seems like a long time, it will go by extremely fast. Between work, travel, family and friends, it’s important to figure out what actually matters most to you. Maybe it’s spending time with your best friends before everyone goes their separate ways, making memories with your family or even just balancing your own rest and fun. Maybe you’re in a long-distance relationship and want to plan phone dates or trips to meet them; all of those things take time. When you’re intentional with your time, you avoid that end-of-summer feeling of wishing you had done more or seen certain people more often.

Have Something To Look Forward To

Honestly, one of the easiest ways to get through the end-of-school stretch is having something exciting waiting for you. It doesn’t have to be huge; it could even be just packing up all of your things and flying home to eat at your favorite hometown cafe, but having something to look forward to will give you motivation. This countdown can be stressful, especially in these remaining weeks of the year, so it’s the little things that you can look forward to that can make the whole season feel easier and more fun when it finally arrives.
