Emmy Awards And VMA Red Carpet Trend Recap

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at WVU chapter.

If you love fashion and entertainment like I do, you most definitely tuned in to the MTV Video Music awards and the Emmy Awards earlier this week.  I think its no surprise that the red carpet at both awards were pretty much the main event.

Let’s take a look into the top trends on the red carpet this week!

At the 66th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards, red gowns were obviously the top trend of the night.  Some of these stars in red include Giuliana Rancic, Heidi Klum, and actress Julia Louis-Dreyfus.  All of their gowns were elegant, chic and floor length.

Besides red gowns, some other trends that seemed to be popular were plunging necklines, high slits and backless gowns.  Heavy embellishments were also a trend starting with Gwen Stefani’s Swarovski Versace skirt and top all the way to Hayden Panettiere’s baby bearing metallic gown.

At the 31st Annual MTV Video Music Awards, we saw a lot of trends done spot on.

Tons of trends were seen at the VMA’s from the classic to the crazy.  Animal print was a big one this year starting with Nicki Minaj’s gold and leopard print long sleeve mini dress.  We also saw Charli XCX in a black and yellow zebra jumpsuit.

It also seems like wearing separates was the new ball gown this year. Artists and actress’ like Miley Cyrus and Lucy Hale sported a cropped or bandeau top with a separate pant or skirt on bottom.

Also, can’t forget to mention Katy Perry and Riff Raff making a Brit and JT come back…
