Everyone knows that “Halloween is the one night a year where you can dress like a slut and no other girl can say anything about it” (Tina Fey, 2002). But, for me at least, the night becomes a lot less fun when I have goosebumps the whole time. Here is a brainstorm of more covered Halloween costumes to keep you warm that are still sexy and fun.
Anything with Fleece-Lined Tights
You can add fleece-lined tights to any Halloween costume, whether you’re wearing a skirt, shorts or a dress. If you don’t already own a pair, this might be the most expensive part of your costume, but if you already have a black or red mini skirt in your closet, you can be virtually anything. Switch out the skirt and top for an LBD and an animal ear headband, and now you’ve got two costumes. The Halloween costume possibilities are endless when it comes to layering, DIY, thrifting, pulling from clothes you already have, and a little creativity!
“A Royale with Cheese”
My favorite Halloween costume idea this year is Mia Wallace from Pulp Fiction. If you haven’t seen this movie, go watch it right now. I promise you won’t regret it, and you might even get some couples costume inspo! All it takes to be Mia is a white button-up, black dress pants and black flats. Another idea similar to this is a gender-bent Patrick Bateman from American Psycho. You can go as far as adding the Walkman headphones and fake blood, but a button-up, red tie and a clear raincoat will get the point across just as well. Both of these costumes are versatile, and these pieces can be found at any thrift store. Bonus points if you pair the fleece tights with a mini skirt for Patrick!
Leg Warmers
Leg warmers are an icon of American fashion, and everyone knows it. Not only are there so many looks you can create with them, but they always give your outfit a different vibe. And despite their appearance, leg warmers will keep you significantly warmer on Halloween night. Some easy looks with leg warmers include the Cheshire Cat, a ballerina, an aerobics instructor, 80s Barbie and any other fuzzy animal you can think of.
The Classic Closet Pull
It’s not hard to end up spending an arm and a leg on Halloween costumes, but it is totally avoidable. And don’t forget to look at what you already have! Anything in your closet that reminds you of a certain color, style or shape a character or celebrity wears? Build an outfit around it. A pair of cheap sunglasses can easily turn into an agent from Men in Black, Audrey Hepburn or Lady Gaga. Black leggings and colored long-sleeve tops are perfect bases for any costume to keep you warm while still looking cute.
