The Best Diet Coke Commercials/Logos Through The Years

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at WVU chapter.

Diet Coke was first introduced to shelves in 1982. According to Coca-Cola’s website, “By the end of 1983, Diet Coke was the No. 1 diet soft drink in the U.S., and the top soft drink brand among women. At the end of the ‘80s, Advertising Age named Diet Coke Brand of the Decade.” By 2010, it was the No. 2 soft drink in the U.S, behind Coca-Cola.

The success of Diet Coke stems from their captivating advertising over the years. Here’s a look at some of Diet Coke’s most memorable ads and slogans from 1982 to the present day:

1. 1982: The first ever Diet Coke commercial aired in July this year. This iconic ad was filmed at Radio City Music Hall with the Rockettes. Their first slogan to go with the ad was “Just for the taste of it.”

2. 1989: This premiered at the super bowl as the first ever 3D commercial.

3. 1995: We can’t leave out the infamous “Diet Coke break” man. This ad did so well that Diet Coke created many more “Diet Coke break” spin-off commercials.

4. 2014: Who could forget the “Share a Coke” ad campaign! If you couldn’t find your name on a keychain, maybe you could find it on a Coke bottle.

5. 2019: A grilled cheese and Diet Coke pairing never looked so good in this ad. This is one of the newest Diet Coke commercials featuring new flavors including Ginger Lime, Twisted Mango, Zesty Blood Orange and Fiesty Cherry. I will be grabbing one of these ASAP because I can.

Through the years, Diet Coke’s advertising skills have only improved. Anytime I watch a commercial of Diet Coke I immediately crave one. Maybe its mind control, or more likely their outstanding advertising is what compels me to buy one.
