Name: Samantha Monroe

Year: Sophomore

Hometown: Bellmawr, NJ

Major: Communication Disorders

Leadership Position: Vice President of WPU Dance Team

HC: At what age did you start dancing?

SM: I started dancing when I was only three years old.

HC: What made you want to start dancing (and continue to dance)?

SM: I wanted to start dancing because of my cousin. I looked up to her as a child and her dancing made me want to start dancing. I continue to dance because I feel I can escape all the troubles in my life just by listening to the music. I can always free my mind while dancing.

HC: What is your favorite type of dance?

SM: I love jazz! It’s so upbeat and fun.

HC: What is your favorite performance that you’ve done?

SM: My favorite performance has been a very recent one. The dance team performed at orientation for the incoming freshmen. The dance that we did was choreographed by our brand new coach, and I was ready to show off our new moves!

HC: What’s your favorite part of being on the dance team?

SM: We are kind of like a little family. I can go to those girls for any kind of advice. We are all so comfortable with one another – no judgments or anything like that. I have grown to love every one of them in a short period of time.

HC: Any other thoughts/feelings about dance that you’d like to share?

SM: Dance has been a big part of my life for a long time. To continue pursuing this hobby within college was a great opportunity, since many schools do not have a dance team.

HC: Any advice for incoming freshmen?

SM: Freshmen, don’t be scared to get involved in clubs and other activities at Willy P! There are so many welcoming arms here!

I'm a singer/songwriter currently attending William Paterson University. My two main passions are writing and music! :)
