How many times during the day do we go about our business only worrying about ourselves? Far too many. Unfortunately, part of this selfishness is because of human nature. But I have great news! Not everyone is out for themselves. The other day I was parked on campus, and someone hit my car. I didn’t realize until I was home that the damage was intense; I was so upset that someone would have the audacity to hit my car and just leave. The next day, I went to school, parked on campus, and went about my business. I went to leave, and there was a note on my car from Fausto Freire, someone I had never met before. The note said that he had seen who hit my car the day before! He took the time out of his day to look for my car and help me find the person who caused the damage. This restored my faith that there are still wonderful people in this world who aren’t as selfish as the rest of us tend to be.
Now, have we all seen the movie Pay It Forward? The idea from that movie is that someone does something kind for you, and you do something kind for 3 people in return, and so on and so forth. I am starting my “pay it forward” thanks to Fausto, and I encourage everyone else to do a random act of kindness to make someone else’s day a little easier, too!
