Almost every town and county has a humane society. A humane society can be state run or a non-profit. They are organizations that take pets off of the streets and put up for adoption. Not many people know that they can help their local shelter by just doing something as simple, such as donating the newspaper after they use it. Newspaper is used as bedding for most small animals as well as the base for cats litter boxes. Cardboard food containers have many purposes to most shelters, so do not throw them away after your done using them. Almost every shelter needs volunteer help, so if you have the time and dedication to do that you should! You could even just volunteer to come in and walk dogs or help socialize an animal. If volunteering and doing hands on experience isn’t for you, then help by donating. Literally every shelter would take newspaper, dog/cat/small animal food, towels, blankets, toys, treats, and even laundry detergent. Food bowls, old small animal cages, and scoopers are welcome too. There is always ways to help out even if you cant do much. Even volunteering for outside the shelter events could help. I know my local shelter used to have craft shows, yard sales, and events like mutt madness that help promote the adoption of dogs. You can help do sales and present products to customers. If you do donate, you can put it on your tax returns as well. Even just spreading awareness to adopt don’t shop is contributing to less animals on the streets, and to more animals in loving homes around the world. So spread awareness and help out your community and the furry creatures in it by getting involved in your local humane society today.
