Drinks To Try On Thanksgiving

We have been working so hard since the end of August getting all of our assignments done and spending hours at the library. Thanksgiving is coming, and it is the time we can relax, have a few drinks and spend time with our family and friends around us. Here are a few drinks you can try. Some contain alcohol, and some do not for all of our collegiettes that are not 21 yet.

 
 

Alcoholic

1.Cranberry Apple Sangria

 

1 orange

2 tbsp brown sugar

½ tsp ground cinnamon

1 cup spiced rum

2 bottles red wine

½ cup orange liqueur

1 cup cranberry juice

1 cup cranberries

1 cup red apples

1 cup club soda

– Add the orange slices to the bottom of a large bowl or pitcher.

– Sprinkle the brown sugar and cinnamon over the oranges and muddle. (If you don’t have a muddler, the back of a spoon will work also!)

– Add the spiced rum, red wine, orange liqueur and cranberry juice.

– Stir.

– Add the fruit.

– Place in the fridge for at least an hour, preferably the night before.

– Add club soda before serving.

 

2. Maple Manhattan

 

2 oz. of rye

½ oz. fry vermouth

1 tbsp pure maple syrup

2 dashes bitters

ice

pickled cherries

– Add the rye, vermouth, maple syrup and bitters into cocktail shaker.

– Shake it up and pour over ice in a large glass.

– Add skewered cherries.

 

3. Dark and Stormy

 

2 oz. lemon-ginger brew

2 oz. dark rum

club soda

lime wedge and candied ginger

– Add ice to a highball glass.

– Combine lemon-ginger brew and rum in glass.

– Top off with club soda.

– Garnish with lime wedge and candied ginger.

 

Non-Alcoholic

1. Sparkling Cranberry Pomegranate

 

¾ cup pomegranate seeds

2-3 limes

¾ cup of water

¾ cup white sugar + ¼ cup for rimming glasses

2 1/3 cup unsweetened cranberry pomegranate juice

24 oz. club soda, sparkling water, or sparkling soda

lots of crushed or cubed ice

– Thinly slice limes.

– Whisk together water and ¾ cup sugar until the sugar is completely dissolved to make simple syrup.

– Fill large pitcher halfway with ice and pour the simple syrup into pitcher.

– Add club soda.

-Stir together and add the sliced limes and pomegranate seeds.

– Rim your glass with a bit of lime juice and then the sugar.

-Pour into glass and enjoy.

– If making the night before, add ice and club soda right before serving.

 

2. Butter Beer

 

For the drink:

2 liters vanilla cream soda

2 tbsp butter extract

2 tsp rum extract

For the Topping:

7 oz. marshmallow cream

1 cup whipping cream

1 tsp rum extract

– Pour the extracts in the soda bottle.

– Gently roll back and forth to mix.

– Prepare topping.

– Combine the marshmallow cream, whipping cream and rum extract in a bowl.

– Whip until soft peaks.

– Place tablespoon of cream topping into a glass and then the soda on top.

– Or put soda into glass and then the cream topping.

 

3. Citrus Strawberry Mock-tail

 

1 cup lemon-lime soda

4 tbsp strawberry simple syrup (*below)

2 tbsp lime juice

1 lime

¼ cup sugar

zest of lime

Chopped strawberries and lime slices for garnish

– Mix zest of lime and sugar together to create lime sugar.

– Dip rim of glass into water then immediately into lime sugar.

– Mix lemon-lime soda, simple syrup and macerated strawberries (left over from the simple syrup straining) together until well combined.

– Garnish with strawberries and lime slices.

 

*Simple syrup:

1 cup sugar

1 cup water

1 cup strawberries, chopped and pulsed in the blender

– Mix sugar, water and strawberries together in a pot.

– Heat over medium heat until boiling.

– Stir while boiling until sugar is dissolved.

– Poor mixture through a strainer.
